Non Executive Director & Chair | circular economy | water | renewable energy | advanced manufacturing | commercialised innovation
It was an honour at today's AGM of The Environmental Group to be formally approved by shareholders as a Non Executive Director of the company. I am excited about the future EGL as an Australian environmental engineering company with a growing global footprint that provides a one-stop-shop solution for waste treatment across the circular economy, in many industries, to improve environmental outcomes. EGL has several operating divisions, including: EGL Waste for recycling and sorting technologies; EGL Air for total air pollution control for gas emissions, particle removal, and odour controls; EGL Energy for combustion efficiency, heat exchange, biomass boilers, and autoclaves; Baltec for noise control intake and off-take systems, and turbines; and EGL Water for PFAS separation technology. It is a case of great engineering creating solutions for clean and efficient industries that the world needs. What's not to be excited about! And it is a terrific team led by Chair Lynn Richardson (GAICD) and CEO Jason Dixon. Thank you for inviting me to join you. https://lnkd.in/gwJfwn3h Michael Constable Vincent D'Rozario Engineers Australia

Recent research underscores the urgent need to address the pervasive presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in our environment. Classified as potential carcinogens, PFAS have been linked to a range of serious health issues, including: Cancers: Studies have shown associations between PFAS exposure and various cancers, particularly kidney and testicular cancer. Hormonal Disruptions: PFAS can interfere with hormone regulation, leading to reproductive issues and developmental delays in children. Immune System Effects: Exposure to PFAS has been shown to reduce the efficacy of vaccines, posing risks to public health. Cholesterol Levels: Research indicates a correlation between PFAS exposure and elevated cholesterol levels, contributing to cardiovascular disease. In light of these health risks and regulatory developments, reducing exposure to PFAS is critical for long-term health and safety. Our extraction systems offer a robust solution for industries seeking to eliminate PFAS at the source. By effectively removing up to 99% of PFAS from water, soil and biosolids our technology not only safeguards the environment but also protects human health. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward a healthier future. Let’s work hand in hand to implement solutions that ensure both environmental integrity and public safety. As research increasingly highlights the dangers posed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), waste management facilities in Australia must adopt improved practices to prevent further contamination. Often referred to as "forever chemicals," PFAS are resistant to environmental degradation and can persist for decades, leading to widespread contamination of soil, water, and even the food chain. So it doesn't come as a surprise that in Australia, waste management facilities play a critical role in managing PFAS pollution, especially as contaminated materials enter the waste stream. By adopting advanced waste management practices, these facilities can help prevent PFAS from leaching into the environment. To understand the extent of PFAS contamination in Australia, explore the PFAS Australian Map (https://hubs.li/Q02R974p0). This interactive resource highlights known contaminated sites across the country, providing valuable information on sources of contamination, detected PFAS levels, and ongoing remediation efforts. By utilising this tool, waste management facilities can make informed decisions and take proactive steps to safeguard their operations and communities. Research, community leaders, and industry experts all agree that we must eliminate PFAS from our surroundings, but we must ask ourselves: how much longer can we afford to wait? While industries have historically innovated and implemented PFAS components to benefit consumers, it's now time to turn our focus to the same industries and government bodies to help us eradicate these harmful substances. As we wait, PFAS levels continue to rise, new health risks are being uncovered, and alternative products are emerging. It’s crucial for the government to take decisive action against PFAS. Our #PFAS Extraction system marks an exciting breakthrough in environmental technology! By effectively removing PFAS from waste streams, we empower industries to take an active role in the journey towards a cleaner environment. Join us in leading the charge towards a sustainable future! With our PFAS Extraction technology, businesses can transform challenges into opportunities by extracting 99% of PFAS from water, soil, and biosolids. This empowers them to demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible resource management. Together, we can create a sustainable world for generations to come!
