Last week, ACD was proud to attend the Pacific Region Indigenous Doctor’s Congress (PRIDoC) on Kaurna Country (Adelaide). This Congress brings together the foremost Indigenous doctors’ member organisations from across the Pacific, including the Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association, ‘Ahahui o nā Kauka, Association of American Indian Physicians, Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC), Medical Association for Indigenous People of Taiwan (MAIPT), and Te Ohu Rata O Aotearoa (Te ORA). The Congress provided the opportunity to connect with Indigenous medical students and junior doctors to promote the dermatology career pathway in Australia and grow the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. Special thanks to Dr Crystal Williams, Wiradjuri, consultant dermatologist (VIC) and ACD trainee Dr Heather-Lynn Kessaris (Alawa and Mara woman) for facilitating valuable discussions on dermatology at our “Growing our Fellows” session. Thank you to the Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association (AIDA) for providing such a wonderful opportunity to come together as we collectively strive towards a healthier future for all communities.

ACD was proud to host a special screening of Conquering Skin Cancer, an inspiring documentary by Moonshine Agency on Sunday. The session included an excellent panel discussion, hosted by ACD President-elect Dr Adrian Lim featuring our Fellows A/Prof Stephen Shumack, Prof Gayle Fischer and Dr Gilberto Moreno Bonilla, as well as melanoma patient and advocate, Sonia Knight. Sonia’s powerful message highlighted the importance of protecting your skin and emphasised the need to remind younger generations that taking care of your skin isn't just about aesthetics, it's about your long term health. Thank you to our panel and everyone who joined us for the screening. Together we can raise awareness and save lives. Conquering Skin Cancer is still in cinemas, click the link below to book your tickets now! https://lnkd.in/g3CAGSVh #ConqueringSkinCancer

Today is International Volunteer Day (IVD), which aims to raise awareness of the important role volunteers play in responding to challenges facing the world. We’d like to acknowledge our Fellows who generously dedicate their time, knowledge and skills to give back to our College in so many ways. The patient support groups we work with are also largely run by volunteers, and it is their tireless efforts and passion that support thousands of Australians with skin, hair and nail conditions. Learn more about our patient support groups here: https://lnkd.in/g3MU27Ed #IVD2024
