Our end of year celebration is usually a bit of an extravaganza. 🥳 As a mostly remote team, we don't get a whole lot of face-to-face time. So, when we do, we take the opportunity and run with it. 🏃♂️➡️ Packing 2-days into an 18-second video doesn't quite cut it, so here's a breakdown of what we got up to (and why we may have been slow answering emails): 👩🏫 Our product development team put their facilitator hats on and ran us through what they've been working on 🎒 We packed and donated 'buddy bags' with school supplies to our local state school 🎖️ Things got a little rowdy (and competitive) during staff trivia 🎁 And even more chaotic during a game of Santa steal (this one tested friendships) It's always a great few days when the team gets together, and this time was no exception! #TeamBuilding #HappyHolidays

According to a survey of 2,200 families conducted by The Smith Family, 87.3% are worried about being able to afford all the things their child will need for school. This includes digital devices, internet access, supplies like exercise books and stationery, as well as their uniform and shoes. With the cost-of-living squeeze on top of other challenges, it can be tough for many families to pay for the total cost of their child's education. We want everyone to have access to the resources they need to get the most out of school, which is why the Sentis team assembled 'buddy bags' for students in our local community. Each backpack has some of the essentials they need to get started for the school year and will help lessen some of the pressure on families when back to school time rolls around. A big thank you to Principal Craig Marshall for stopping by to talk to us! #Education #Community

During the festive season, it's important to check in on those around us. Recent studies reveal that nearly one in three Australians feel lonely, with young adults aged 18 to 24 being particularly affected. Loneliness can lead to serious health issues, including poor mental health and increased psychological distress. Reaching out to someone who might be struggling can feel daunting, but your genuine concern can make a life-changing difference. Here are evidence-backed tips to guide you: 1️⃣ Choose the Right Setting ✅ Privacy matters: Find a quiet, comfortable, and private space to talk. This reduces distractions and encourages openness. ✅ Be patient: Time the conversation when you can both talk without feeling rushed. Avoid busy or stressful moments. 2️⃣ Start with Empathy ✅ Open with warmth and observation: 💬 “You’ve seemed a bit [quiet/distracted/tired] lately. Is everything okay?” ✅ Acknowledge the season: 💬 “I know the festive season can feel overwhelming for some of us. How are you doing?” 3️⃣ Use Open-Ended Questions ✅ Replace “yes/no” questions with ones that invite conversation: 💬 "What’s been on your mind lately?" 💬 "How are you feeling about the holiday season this year?" 4️⃣ Listen Without Judgment ✅ Practice active listening: Show you’re paying attention through nodding, affirming statements like “That sounds really tough,” and maintaining eye contact. ✅ Avoid solutions: Resist the urge to “fix” their problems. Instead, focus on validating their feelings: 💬 “It’s okay to feel like that.” 5️⃣ Normalize Seeking Support ✅ Share resources subtly: 💬 “You know, I’ve found talking to [a GP/a counsellor/a friend] really helpful when I’ve felt this way.” ✅ Offer to help: 💬 “If you’d like, I can help you find someone to talk to.” 6️⃣ Follow Up ✅ Check back in: After your initial conversation, follow up in a few days: 💬 “I’ve been thinking about you. How have things been since we last talked?” ✅ Small gestures count: Send a message, invite them for coffee, or simply let them know they’re on your mind. Why This Works 👉 Psychological safety: Private, empathetic environments encourage trust and vulnerability (Brown, 2018). 👉 Active listening: Demonstrating you understand can lower defensiveness and build rapport (Rogers, 1957). 👉 Continued care: Regular follow-ups show ongoing support, reducing feelings of isolation (Van Orden et al., 2010). Remember, asking “R U OK?” doesn’t mean solving someone’s challenges. It’s about creating space for connection and showing them they’re not alone. This festive season, your care could be the gift they need most. 🎁 If someone is struggling, remind them they don’t have to face it alone. Suggest services like Lifeline Australia (13 11 14) or Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636). #mentalhealth #suicideprevention Mental Health First Aid International Suicide Prevention Australia LinkedIn News LinkedIn News Australia
