SANE is delighted to announce a new partnership with Wellmob, the national digital resource hub supporting frontline Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing workers. The collaboration aims to facilitate the development of culturally safe and governed online wellbeing spaces for First Nations health workers. WellMob is also joining SANE’s Indigenous Governance Group to guide the creation of Indigenous-specific spaces on SANE’s digital platform. Nathan Deaves, SANE’s Manager for Social & Emotional Wellbeing Strategy and Partnerships, emphasised that this partnership acknowledges the expertise of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in determining what works best for their own wellbeing. “This partnership recognizes the increasing need for safe digital spaces, particularly in light of the ongoing impacts of the recent Referendum on the wellbeing of the Indigenous community,” Deaves said. “SANE’s established digital mental health platform will enable us to develop culturally tailored and governed programs to meet this demand.” We welcome First Nations Peoples to visit saneforums.org to sign up, test The Yarning Space, engage in discussions and provide feedback ahead of its launch in early 2025.

We are excited to announce that The Dax Centre team recently installed four artworks from the Cunningham Dax Collection in the office of the President of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Shaun Leane MLC. The artists featured include Patricia Stewart, Adam Knapper, James Dickson and Graeme Doyle. Each artwork is displayed alongside the artist story, allowing anyone who visits the office to learn about the lives of the incredibly talented artists behind the selected pieces. The Dax Centre is honoured to be working with the President’s team, and look forward to further collaborations to continue to raise awareness and reduce stigma toward mental ill health through art.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we were thrilled to be invited to take part in PNI Foundation's inaugural Pinnacle Plunge event alongside We Are Mobilise, ReachOut and batyr. CEO Rachel Green took to the stage to present our work to an audience of passionate individuals committed to supporting mental health, MC Sarah Harris and a panel of independent judges. Thanks to the generosity and support of the guests and the efforts of the PNI Foundation team, the night raised over $30,000 for SANE! 🎉 A huge thank you to PNI Foundation for hosting such a meaningful event and to everyone who voted to support our work. Your contributions will help make a difference for people across Australia facing complex mental health challenges.

Share your experiences of finding and accessing mental health care in Australia and help to shape a better future. Contribute to a mental health system that better serves our community’s needs by sharing your experiences finding and accessing mental health care in Australia. This survey is intended for all professionals and front-line workers who have helped people find support for their mental health concerns, including clinicians, helpline staff, peer workers, teachers, university staff, HR and workplace staff, EAP, insurance claims officers, social workers, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals, etc. If you have supported someone to find or access care, or work in the mental health sector, we'd love to hear from you. This survey is being conducted as part of a project commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care to develop options to support people finding and accessing mental health care. The project is being delivered by SANE alongside a consortium of 14 organisations including: Nous Group, The University of Melbourne, yourtown / Kids Helpline, LGBTIQ+ Health, Flourish, One Door, Community Mental Health Australia, Orygen, Lived Experience Australia, Thirrili, The Butterfly Foundation, Outcome Health, Phoenix and the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing. We’re very happy to share that Big W has reached out to us to apologise and have removed the stigmatising Halloween costume from their stores. We applaud BIG W for listening and acting quickly to prevent the spread of harmful stereotypes. Their willingness to engage thoughtfully in this conversation and take meaningful steps to address the issue sets an example for others. We hope this inspires more retailers to consider the impact of their products and contribute to a Halloween that embraces creativity, without harmful labels. https://lnkd.in/g8A5hKPQ #MentalHealthAwareness #MHAM2024 #SANE #EndStigma #MentalHealthMatters #ComplexMentalHealth #PositiveChange

It’s been brought to our attention that some major retailers are selling Halloween costumes that portray people with complex mental health issues as “insane,” “crazed patients,” and “out of control.” These straitjacket costumes reinforce damaging stereotypes, spreading stigma that affects millions of Australians. They are offensive, deeply hurtful, and misrepresent the reality of living with complex mental health conditions. We’re urging retailers to recognise the impact of these costumes and remove them from sale. BIG W Spotlight Retail Group (SRG) — let’s work together to promote understanding and end the stigma. #EndStigma #MentalHealthAwareness #SANE #MHAM2024 #ComplexMatters
Hey Spotlight Retail Group (SRG) and BIG W check out my selfie...this is what a #mentalpatient really looks like. Living with mental health issues isn't a #halloween costume. Please do better and pull these products from sale. We're people, like you. Thanks Luke Marshall for calling this out SANE https://lnkd.in/gd4v4DAR
