We are a purpose-driven management consulting firm

About us

Right Lane is a flourishing, top quality, management consulting firm. We employ our distinctive ideas and processes, and our absolute commitment to delivery, to help clients we care about pursue their inspiring missions. We work alongside clients who do great work within the sectors they operate in, and we are excited to be involved in creating outcomes that truly make a difference. We are an ethical consulting firm with a strong belief in the work we do, and with a passion to give back to the broader community with the skills and expertise available within our walls. Right Lane was established in 1997 to help private, not for profit and public sector clients to clarify and accelerate their future plans. Over the past 23 years, we have helped the executive teams and boards of around 300 organisations to define and adapt their direction and strategy, identify and clarify their priorities, align their efforts with their aspirations, get their major projects started and finished, and measure and improve their performance. In 2015 Right Lane became Australia’s first B Corp certified strategy consulting firm, and the first to be recertified in 2017. This follows Right Lane’s decision in 2011 to adopt ‘for benefit’ principles, including reasonable returns, inclusive ownership, stakeholder governance, transparency, and social and environmental responsibility. Capping our return on shareholder funds at reasonable levels, rather than seeking to maximise financial returns, has allowed our firm to pursue our purpose to contribute to a better society by helping organisations that do good, do better. B Corporations are a new kind of company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

  • Right Lane Consulting was delighted to sponsor the 2024 John Cain Memorial Oration delivered by Clare O'Neil MP, Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness. The Minister highlighted the need to be bold, ambitious and collaborative in our efforts to address the housing crisis and ensure everyday Australians have a ‘fair go’.   In the spirit of collaboration, CEO, Chiara Lawry, and Housing Practice Lead, Gemma Pinnell hosted a table of valued clients and stakeholders in the housing sector and is proud to work alongside peak bodies, institutional investors and community housing providers to unlock housing supply. Thanks to Per Capita Australia for organising a great event. #ethicalconsulting #housingcrisis #sponsorship

  • Right Lane, led by Georgie Swan (she/her), was thrilled to support Many Rivers Regional Housing, a leading not for profit Aboriginal Community Housing Provider, serving communities from the mid north coast of NSW up to the Tweed.    Many Rivers is a valuable part of Right Lane's pro and low bono program and supports our deep commitment to improving access to affordable, safe, and appropriate housing for all Australians.    New CEO, Daniel Becker, just a few months into the role, recognised the need to bring the board together to have strategic conversations about the organisation's aspiration, key strategic choices and priorities.     Daniel reflected, 'It was wonderful to come together as a group, to really see that we're values aligned, on the same page and we know why we're here and what we are going to do. It's an exciting time to be at Many Rivers.'   'We want to ensure our communities have access to, and pride in safe, and hospitable homes. With Aboriginal people disproportionately represented in social housing in Australia - we recognise the value an Aboriginal community controlled organisation can have in supporting our communities to thrive, with cultural safety support.' For more information on Right Lane's housing practice, please contact [email protected] Gemma Pinnell.   'Many Rivers is serving a critical role in the provision of social housing and community support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Being able to provide support to the Many Rivers Board and CEO to shore up plans for the next strategic horizon has been a privilege,' said Georgie.  #forpurpose #strategicplanning #ethicalconsulting #housingcrisis

  • Members of Right Lane Consulting's superannuation practice were delighted to join and celebrate Women in Super's 30th anniversary last night.   It was a fantastic evening to reflect on the history and achievements of Women in Super with many of their team, volunteers, members and partners, in driving better retirement and economic outcomes for women in Australia through their work in advocacy and professional development.   Jo Kowalczyk, CEO of Women in Super, reflected on the tenacity and dedication that has underpinned the establishment, operation and achievements of Women in Super over the years.   And special guest, the Hon. Julia Gillard, spoke about the need to continue working towards women’s economic safety, separating the ‘noise’ from real outcomes. The numbers tell us that there is much more to be done, and Right Lane Consulting is proud to work alongside WIS and the profit to member super funds to continue to advocate for change.

  • What does it mean to be a responsible business?   World-leading authority on sustainability and integrated reporting, Robert Eccles, poses this intriguing question in a recent HBR article, ‘Moving beyond ESG’ (Sep-Oct 2024).   Bob suggests 3 strategies – clarity of purpose, candid sustainability reporting and constructive stakeholder engagement – Right Lane Founder and Chair Marc Levy believe this doesn't go far enough.   In this article, standing on the shoulders of this particular giant, Marc suggests 10 factors: 1. Make catalytic commitments to ambition 2. Agree on a holistic, long-term value creation thesis 3. Practice deep listening with stakeholders 4. Promote an ethical climate 5. Manage your workforce professionally and fairly 6. Make decisions rigorously and mindfully 7. Embrace diversity, equity and inclusion 8. Take proportionate responsibility for your ecosystem and trade fairly 9. Pledge 1% to support the communities in which your organisation operates 10. Choose ownership and governance structures suited to your purpose.   https://lnkd.in/gTBWGcSw Drop us your thoughts in the comments. #responsiblebusiness #ethicalconsulting

  • 'Homelessness is a Housing Problem' was the powerful message arising from the Housing All Australians summit earlier this week. We were privileged to hear from keynote speaker Professor Gregg Colburn, who shared powerful insights from his latest book, Homelessness is a Housing Problem. The call to action: 'Don’t wait – Please don’t wait.' The presentation and panel discussion reinforced a stark reality: the lack of affordable housing and the resulting rise in homelessness pose significant social and financial challenges for Australia. It was a pleasure for Right Lane Consulting’s Gemma Pinnell, Rebecca Reimers, and Katie Riuli to join clients and friends in discussing this critical issue and its implications for Australia. Learn more about these crucial issues in Right Lane Consulting’s ‘Housing Matters’ Report and let’s take this message to heart and work together to improve access to affordable, safe, and appropriate housing. Thanks to Adrian Harrington for hosting an insightful breakfast and panel. #HousingAllAustralians #AffordableHousing #Homelessness #RightLaneConsulting #SocialImpact

  • Corporate giving is a massive growth option for Australian philanthropy. 14 of the ASX 50 companies are already contributing at least 1% of pre-tax profits to the communities of which they are a part. With Australian business profits approaching one trillion dollars, the upside for corporate philanthropy is tremendous. Normalising the 1% Pledge in the Australian business community, as proposed by Atlassian, Salesforce and others, would make a big difference. In this article, drawn from Right Lane Founder and Chair Marc Levy's recent speeches/panel discussions on corporate philanthropy, mobilising business capital for social good, and businesses' role in addressing social issues, he sets out the drivers we should prioritise to grow corporate giving. #corporategiving #philanthropy #forpuporse #ethicalconsulting https://lnkd.in/gVfgCk6N

  • After a great event in Melbourne, Right Lane Consulting celebrated Right Lane’s inaugural Housing Matters 2024 report in Sydney this week. We were thrilled to celebrate with our Sydney team and Sydney-based collaborators, clients and industry contributors. With around 40 attendees, including institutional investors, housing providers, government representatives, advocacy bodies, service providers and other stakeholders, the event highlighted the national impact the report. It was a wonderful opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, meet new people and explore collaborative solutions to the housing crisis. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our foundational partners – IFM Investors, SGCH, and Community Housing Industry Association NSW. A special thanks to our incredible speakers who for sharing their insights: Leonie King, CEO, CityWest Housing Mark Degotardi, CEO, CHIA NSW Wendy Hayhurst, CEO, Community Housing Industry Association Get your copy of the Right Lane's Housing Matters Report 2024 - ‘Unlocking the supply of social and affordable housing at scale’.
