It's snake season! 🐍 If you or someone around you gets bitten by a snake, knowing what to do can save a life. Be prepared and follow these quick steps: 1. Call 000 immediately 2. Remain calm and stay still Staying calm and ensuring the affected person doesn't move slows the speed of the snake venom travelling through the body. 3. Put a pressure bandage over the bite The bandage should be firm and tight - not so tight as to cut off circulation, but tight enough that you cannot easily slide a finger between the bandage and the skin. 4. Cover the entire limb with a heavy or elasticised roller bandage Above the bite begin wrapping the bandage around the affected limb until it is covered. For example, if the affected person has been bitten on the wrist begin wrapping the bandage from the wrist up to their collarbone. 5. Splint the affected limb Apply a splint to the limb to immobilise joints on either side of the bite and restrict movement as much as possible. Bites to the arm should be immobilised with a sling rather than a splint. 6. Remain still and wait for emergency services If you are able to, on the outside of the bandage mark the bite area and wait for emergency services to arrive. Download our free poster snake bite instructions poster and hang it up at home, work or any other space to keep everyone informed and prepared! https://hubs.la/Q02XsMMc0 #snakebite #snakebitesafety #stayprepared #firstaidessentials #safety #snakes #snakeseason
