  • For October, the Public Sector Commission (PSC) has been raising ovarian cancer awareness by frocking up.   Throughout October, the PSC team dressed up for Frocktober, which is specially themed days for each week, in stylish frocks, suits, and creative outfits to show our support and raise funds for this important cause. Frocktober is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for ovarian cancer research. With a five-year survival rate of just 49%, ovarian cancer is the most lethal women’s cancer. Frocktober offers a chance to spark crucial conversations about the challenges of early detection, treatment and prevention while raising awareness of the often-vague symptoms. Learn more about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer here: https://lnkd.in/gNYkPfGg   #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference #Frocktober

The Office of the Special Commissioner (OSC) mission is led by Dr Linda Colley. The team’s mission is to shake up the way the sector approaches equity and diversity, and bring an equity and diversity lens to all things in the Public Sector Commission and the sector . The team started with new provisions in the Public Sector Act 2022, and have forged on from there. Here's some examples of the OSC focus and achievements: Nation-leading policy change - They have been at the forefront of nation-leading policy development, including new approaches to merit and equity, and Australia’s first comprehensive reproductive health leave Down, down, the gender pay gap is down - A lot of their work is focused on the gender pay gap, and they have supported agencies to drive it down by a whopping 30% over the past three years. Check out the latest annual dashboard to see the amazing progress: Gender pay equity dashboard 2024.   Deep diving into data to drive change They guide organisations through annual equity and diversity audits, helping them uncover hidden inequities in workforce data and Working for Queensland (WfQ) responses, and supporting them to translate that evidence into action plans for real change.   Nation leading sexual harassment reforms The OSC partnered with Public Sector Commission teams to develop a nation-leading framework for preventing and responding to sexual harassment in the workplace and led conversations about the new approach across the sector. Continuing regulatory changes means ongoing work in this area.   Shattering glass ceilings! The OSC’s Women in Leadership initiative has multiple activities, including coordination of an Executive Women’s Network where senior women can connect and meet the sector leaders. The OSC may be small, but their impact is big, and they look forward to continuing to support a more diverse and equitable public sector.

  • Well done to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander career pathways team for managing the recent annual leadership and networking event. The event highlight was hearing from a panel of inspiring First Nations leaders who shared their personal leadership journeys. This sparked important discussions on how to make the public sector more inclusive and supportive for First Nations professionals. Attendees openly shared their stories, challenges, and aspirations for the future, while also exploring strategies to increase First Nations representation in leadership roles. The event fostered a sense of community and highlighted the importance of mentorship, cultural pride, and providing opportunities for future leaders in public service. The welcoming and supportive environment encouraged honest conversations about the difficulties many face, while also celebrating the resilience, strength, and ambitions of First Nations public servants. #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference #FirstNations #Networking

  • The Premier’s Achievement Awards were held recently, and the Office of the Special Commissioner (OSC), Equity and Diversity was highly commended in the diversity and inclusion category for their contribution to the introduction of 10 days of reproductive health leave for the public sector workforce. The introduction of the leave signals significant support for working women, positioning the Queensland Government as a global leader on employment conditions. In developing the policy, the OSC proposed a holistic approach that encompassed reproductive health issues across the life cycle, such as IVF and fertility-related issues, chronic conditions (related to menstruation, endometriosis or menopause) and preventative screening. Available from October 2024, this leave will significantly improve the lives and working conditions of the sector’s predominantly female workforce: https://lnkd.in/gEKGNpv5 A huge congratulations to the OSC team including Linda Colley, Allana Bianchi and Claire Andrews for their work on introducing reproductive health leave and for making a positive impact across the Queensland public sector. #BeHere4Qld #BeTheDifference
