  • 🎁 Wrapping up your gifts this holiday season? While it may seem harmless, the environmental impact of single-use gift wrap is anything but minor. Each year, millions of tons of wrapping paper end up in landfills. Let’s unwrap the planet price of this festive tradition. 🌱 The Hidden Costs of Wrapping Paper – for $50 worth of glossy wrapping paper, the planet price is about $10. This colourful, cheap, single use wrapping paper is widely available, but impacts the planet in many ways: 📦Resource Use: Over 50,000 trees are cut down annually for wrapping paper alone, and large amounts of water are also required in manufacturing. 🏭 Production & Transportation: Material production and transport generated greenhouse gas emissions. 🗑️ Disposal: Many wrapping papers aren’t often only used once, and are not recyclable due to coatings or decorations (e.g. plastic coated paper, glitter or plastic foils), leading to extensive landfill waste. Plastic based materials can also release microplastics into ecosystems. What alternatives could you consider instead?🎄 🦉 Choose Wisely: If buying new wrapping paper, avoid plastic-based products and opt for recyclable, compostable, or FSC-certified paper. 🎨 DIY Wrap: Use materials you already have like newspapers, tissue paper wrapping or fabric for a unique touch. ♻️ Reuse: Opt for reusable options like gift bags, ribbons, bows or even paper from from gifts you've received. At Planet Price, we know these decisions aren’t always straightforward, especially when balancing costs, convenience and sustainability. But with the right tools and insights, we believe mindful choices can make a big difference. 💭 Got creative wrapping tips or favourite reusable alternatives? • 🎁 Toys of Christmas Past, Present, and Future 🎄 As the holiday season fills the air with cheer, it’s worth thinking about the hidden costs behind our gift choices—especially toys. With so many families navigating tighter budgets, here’s a closer look at three popular options and their impacts: 🎲 Plastic toys: Affordable, durable, and colourful, plastic toys are often the easiest option for budget-conscious shoppers. But their hidden environmental costs are significant. Made from petroleum-based materials, they generate emissions during production and often end up in landfills or oceans, taking centuries to decompose. 🌳 Wooden toys: Beautiful and built to last, wooden toys seem like a sustainable choice but may not be the cheapest. However, their impact depends on whether they’re made from responsibly sourced wood (look for FSC certification) and finished with non-toxic materials. Without these safeguards, they may contribute to deforestation, which can offset their benefits. ✨ Thrifted treasures: Budget-friendly and eco-conscious, second-hand toys are the ultimate win-win. They give pre-loved items a new lease on life, reduce waste, and cut demand for new resources. Thrifted toys often cost less, come with unique charm, and are easier on both the planet and your pocket. At Planet Price, we know these decisions aren’t always straightforward, especially when balancing costs and sustainability. But with the right tools and insights, we believe mindful choices can make a big difference. 🌟 What’s your go-to for gifting sustainably—plastic, wooden, thrifted, or something else entirely? Let’s spark some holiday magic with thoughtful giving that works for you and the planet. 🌍✨ #SustainableGifting #HiddenCosts #PlanetPrice #ConsciousConsumer #Deloitte Deloitte Celia Hayes Chris Riley Georgie Wilkie Grace Brandenburg

  • 🎁 Have you ever considered the "planet price" of your purchases—the total cost to the planet, not just your wallet? In this cost-of-living crisis, it can be more difficult to explore planet-friendly choices, but this is where Planet Price can help to explore the impact of your purchases and understand how brands can support sustainable consumption. Headphones on your wish list this Christmas? Did you know that about 40% of the cost goes into the product's environmental impact? Let's dive into the planet price! 🌍🎧 💸 Budget-Friendly Headphones ✅ Pros: Financial affordability. ❌ Cons: Short lifespan, contribute to e-waste, often non-repairable, and made with non-recyclable materials. 💎 High-End Headphones ✅ Pros: Built to last, use eco-friendly materials, and support ethical production practices. ❌ Cons: Higher upfront cost and excessive packaging. 💡 The Hidden Costs of Headphones For a $50 pair of headphones, the planet price is about $20—meaning 40% of the cost goes into environmental impact: 🌿 Resource Extraction: Mining contributes to habitat destruction. 🏭 Manufacturing & Shipping: Carbon emissions and energy use. ♻️ Waste: Shorter lifespans lead to more e-waste, often ending up in landfill. 🌍 What You Can Do:  Care for What You Have: Extend their life with proper storage and cleaning.  Repair Instead of Replace: Seek repair services or DIY fixes.  Buy Second-Hand: Reduce waste by buying pre-loved items.  Recycle: Utilise local e-waste facilities for proper disposal. 💡 What Brands Can Do to Help:  Take-Back Schemes: Offer product recycling programs.  Repairable Products: Design with repairability in mind.  Recycling Partnerships: Support correct end-of-life disposal through established infrastructure. ✨ At Planet Price, we're working behind the scenes to help people uncover the real cost of their choices—including the planet price. We’re excited for something special coming your way in the new year! 🎄 💬 Got any sustainable gift-giving tips? • ⏪ Last week, one of our own Debbie O'Byrne, MBA had the privilege of attending the Circularity Conference 2024—a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much work still lies ahead in advancing the circular economy. The sessions covered a range of topics, including financing the circular transition, designing for reuse, and improving system sustainability. It was a good opportunity to take stock of current practices and hear from others tackling similar challenges. A few takeaways stood out: 💡 Inspiring Keynotes: Thought leaders discussed actionable strategies for businesses to integrate circular practices. Picture - Importance of Indigenous Wisdom: Listening and learning from those who have been thinking holistically for millennia was really powerful. 🧮Data-Driven Insights: Sessions on leveraging technology to track and optimise material use. 🤝 Connecting with Peers: As always, the chance to meet and exchange ideas with others in the field was a highlight. At Planet Price, we’re continually exploring how to align our work with circular principles. Conferences like this serve as reminders of the shared effort needed to drive meaningful change. Kudos to Debbie for representing us and bringing back valuable insights! 🚀 Looking forward to seeing how these ideas evolve and inspire further progress. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #PlanetPrice #CircularityConference

  • Our Co-Founder, Debbie O'Byrne, MBA, recently had the incredible privilege of meeting Janez Potocnik — a true icon of sustainability and a relentless advocate for the circular economy. 💪 ♻️ His work has inspired countless individuals and organizations to rethink how we use resources, from his leadership in shaping EU environmental policies, such as the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, to his role as Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel, where he has pushed for sustainable resource management on a global level. He was instrumental in the development of the EU's 7th Environment Action Programme and has been a vocal advocate for integrating sustainability into economic frameworks, showcasing how systemic change can be achieved. Talking with him was a reminder of how much can be achieved when passion meets purpose. His insights on safeguarding planetary resilience and his vision for a more equitable future are exactly what we need in these challenging times. 🌱 It’s not every day you get to meet someone who has not only influenced policy on a global scale but has also sparked a movement that will shape the future of our planet. 🐝🌏 #SustainableFuture #EnvironmentalLeadership #PlanetResilience #GreenInnovation #SystemicChange

  • We believe in regeneration – rebuilding our ecosystems, restoring our soils, and renewing our connection with the planet. Choosing regenerative products isn’t just about price; it’s about investing in a healthier future for all life on Earth. Here's why regeneration matters and why your choices make a difference: 🌱 Nurturing Soil Health: Regenerative farming focuses on revitalizing soil, using techniques like cover cropping, no-till, and crop rotation. By supporting regenerative agriculture, you’re investing in rich, healthy soils that absorb carbon, retain water, and nourish life. 🐝 Restoring Biodiversity: Unlike conventional monoculture practices, regenerative approaches encourage diverse ecosystems, supporting pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. By choosing products from regenerative systems, you’re helping create spaces where life flourishes. 🔃 Closing the Loop: Regeneration is about minimizing waste and closing nutrient loops. Organic waste is returned to the soil, reducing the need for external inputs and building long-term resilience. Farmers who farm holistically should be rewarded for their efforts, as we are rewarded with much more nutrient-dense food. Your support makes this circular approach possible. 🚨 Demanding Regenerative Change: When we invest in regeneration, we’re showing that we care about the future of our planet and that we recognize that there are costs to transition to regenerative farming - our policies should reduce the burden on people and farmers to replenish and repair our degraded soils. Together, we can foster a regenerative future that heals the land, respects planetary boundaries, and ensures a thriving Earth for generations to come. 🌿Let’s choose regeneration, one step at a time. 🌏 #SupportLocal #EatSeasonal #CSACommunity #HealthyEating #Regenerativefood

  • As we conclude our Planetary Boundary series, we hope this journey has inspired action and awareness to protect the fragile balance of our planet. With growing concern about the collapse of global biodiversity, the recent  COP 16 Biodiversity Conference in Columbia highlighted just how critical it is to safeguard the integrity of Earth's ecosystems. Biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate due to habitat destruction, pollution, and overexploitation of natural resources. This week, we explore the planetary boundary of Biospheric Integrity—the importance of genetic and functional diversity in maintaining ecosystem resilience, and what we must do to protect the diversity of life that sustains our planet. Read on to learn more about how we can all contribute to halting biodiversity collapse. ⬇ #PlanetaryBoundariesSeries #WildlifeProtection #ClimateAction #Environment
