Community legal services play a vital role in responding to family and domestic violence and helping victim-survivors to safety. Last year, 38% of women seeking legal help were experiencing family violence. Housing and FVROs (Family Violence Restraining Orders) are the top 2 issues for our centres. This State Election, we are calling for more funding for community legal services to help respond to rising rates of family and domestic violence and support more families to safety. Take a look at the full list of our 2025 WA State Election Priorities on our website - https://lnkd.in/gFszi5G9 #fundmorecommunitylaw #communitylaw A special thanks to Eleanor from South West Community Legal Centre for this awesome pic!

Organised by Allembee, OVIS and Peel Says No to Violence. The event honoured those affected by domestic and family violence and reinforced our collective commitment to ending violence in our community. The rally at George Robinson Gardens featured inspiring speakers, followed by the Silent March to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, concluding with light refreshments. Thank you to everyone who participated, shared stories, and stood with us in this important cause. • On Sunday, our CEO Kathy had the privilege of attending the Community Cabinet visit in Pinjarra. This event provided an incredible opportunity to connect with local community members and services while engaging directly with the Premier and other ministers. Community Cabinet serves as a vital platform for regional communities, allowing them to voice local concerns and priorities directly to the state's leadership.

  • Each year the City of Mandurah turn the bridge orange in support of the 16 days of Activism and to acknowledge the members of our community experiencing family violence in their lives. Zonta members have met during the 16 days for the last few years to show their support and encourage conversations by bringing attention to the devastation family violence brings to our community. They would love to grow this to an annual community event and welcome all to join in !

  • We, like most organisations working in and with the community, rely heavily on volunteers to support our work. Today we were proud to see our outgoing Chair, Wendy Harman, acknowledged at the WA Senior of the Year Awards for the work she has done over the last 15 years. Wendy has resigned as Chair, a position she has held since late 2019, but continues to serve on our Board. Over this time Wendy has proven to be an outstanding leader. Her guidance has been instrumental in navigating the organisation through several significant challenges, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic. Under her leadership, Peel Community Legal Services successfully adapted to the unprecedented circumstances, ensuring that vital services continued uninterrupted during a time of great uncertainty. We are very fortunate to have the benefit of her experience and wisdom. Thank You for all that you do Wendy.

  • This is the second Tenancy briefing we have held and both have been successful in connecting Property Managers with services that can support tenants when they first start to experience difficulties with their lease. As usual the Mandurah spirit has been evident and the willingness of our community to support each other demonstrated by the excellent turn out. Thank You to everyone involved, working together we know we make a positive difference. A special acknowledgement and thank you to Victoria Ferguson the tenant Advocate at Peel Community Legal Services for her work in putting the briefing together.

    Executive Director at Imagined Futures

This morning, I had the pleasure of attending a tenancy briefing in beautiful Mandurah for local property managers, who are often the first point of contact for those facing financial hardship. The session covered the support options available for tenants at risk and the practical implications of recent rental reforms. Organised by the Mandurah Kwinana Rockingham Improvement Team and supported by the Peel Development Commission, Peel Community Legal Services and the Western Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (WAAEH), the session fostered a rich discussion for ongoing collaboration opportunities between property managers and the community sector to support people to sustain their tenancy and avoid homelessness. The sooner people reach out for support, the more options they have, but as the property managers observed, first they have to know what support is there in the first place. After today they are much better placed to do so. Congrats to all involved. We hope to follow your lead and do the same in the South West Metro region! #collaboration #preventinghomelessness
