Forty students from three Orange high schools visited Orange City Council for a Career Information Day yesterday. The day started with Q&A sessions with several Council staff members from different areas of the organisation before the students split into groups and toured Council facilities such as the works depot, Civic Centre, Community Services, childcare centres and Orange Youth Hub. The event gave students the opportunity to chat with council employees about their special career interests. Do you want to work at Orange City Council? 🏆 An Orange City Council program designed to ensure the future of its skilled workforce has won a 2024 NSW Local Government Excellence Award. The program aims to overcome the challenge of ‘succession planning’ by capturing the wealth of knowledge of long-term employees and the enthusiasm and skill of younger staffers to maintain a productive workforce, while supporting employees to develop their careers in local government. Designed by Council’s People and Culture Senior Specialist Amanda Kerslake, the program won the prize for Innovative Leadership, which was presented at an awards night in Sydney recently to recognise excellence and innovation in the local government sector. Pictured are Orange City Council’s People and Culture Manager Jen Sharp and Senior Specialist Amanda Kerslake receiving the award from LG Service Group CEO Scott Mason. The weather is cooling down, but things are heating up at Orange City Council's retail pods in McNamara Street. Local chef Richard Learmonth has launched 'Loop de Loop', selling delicious homemade soups from 11.30am to 2pm weekdays, or until sold out. There will be two different soups each day, one vegetarian, with flavours changing through the week. Richard says this is an idea he's had for a while and is pleased to give it a go. "The winter months are perfect for soups. It's the right time, so when the opportunity came up, I took it," he said. Loop de Loop is at 43 McNamara Street. * Have a small business idea?
