It has been another huge year for the NSW Women in Construction Program and we are so proud of what the Program has achieved.     In 2024, we have:   - Awarded $2.2 million in grant funding to 13 industry initiatives that will encourage the participation and retention of women in the construction industry.   - Launched the Women in Construction newsletter to ensure our stakeholders have the latest updates.   - Hosted the NSW Women in Construction Forum with three ministerial sponsors and over 200 attendees from across the construction sector.   - Developed and launched the Women in Leadership video series to showcase examples of inspiring women and different construction careers.   - Supported the NAWIC NSW - National Association of Women in Construction’s International Women’s Day event and held a networking event with over 400 attendees during Women in Construction Week.   - Released the Women in Construction Year 2 Industry Survey and survey report, providing a critical evidence base for the program.   - Announced the Bank Street Park initiative which will call on industry to achieve a stretch target of 50% women on the project.   - Expanded the number of Government projects trialling increased targets (4% women in trades and 7% women in non-traditional roles), this is now up to 23 projects across NSW.   - Held 29 briefing sessions with members of industry and Government. We look forward to growing this list of achievements even further in 2025!

Great to see one of our Industry Innovation Program initiatives - HumeLink EmPOWERing Regional Women - preparing women to enter the construction industry via a locally run pre-employment program in the Southern Tablelands. Following a seven-week training program, all participants have now graduated from the program and are ready to begin their careers in construction 👷🏽♀️🎉

The NSW Government today launched the ‘Principles for Partnership with the Construction Industry’, seeking to address current sector challenges while encouraging improved collaboration between government and the construction industry.    Importantly, one of the Principles focusses on enhancing industry culture and diversity by supporting programs such as NSW Women in Construction and the Culture in Construction Taskforce.    We look forward to working with our partners in government and industry to implement these Principles and actions 🤝🏼

We have some exciting news to share!     In 2025, NSW Women in Construction will fund the NAWIC NSW - National Association of Women in Construction Executive Leadership Scholarship  📚📝    The scholarship recognises women that are making an impact within the construction and building industry and supports these women to grow their leadership skills. The $30,000 scholarship can be put towards an executive leadership program of the successful applications choice.    More details and information on the application process coming soon! 

The Master Builders Association of New South Wales, an Industry Innovation Program funding recipient, is currently conducting research into the impact of workplace humour, including banter, on women in the NSW construction sector. In collaboration with RMIT University’s School of Property, Construction and Project Management, the research will examine the positive and negative aspects of onsite humour and gain insights into its effects on women’s health, well-being, and career retention. By studying these dynamics, they aim to foster a more inclusive, respectful, and supportive culture within the industry.   If you are a woman working in the industry, you can have your say by participating in their confidential, 10-minute survey.
