Employees often get penalty rates if they are required to work weekends, public holidays, overtime, late night or early morning shifts. The rates are usually set out in their Award or Agreement. You may also have something different in your employment contract if you pay above Award rates. An employee must always be better off overall so you can’t pay less than the Award or Agreement entitlements

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Do I really need HR policies? 𝗔𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 Yes, it's a great way to make sure your employees know the "rules" of your business. HR policies are an effective way to give guidance to your employees about what you expect of them, what they can expect of you, their rights & responsibilities & legislative requirements. HR policies can cover social media, leave, code of conduct, vehicle use, attendance & absenteeism, WHS, performance management, drugs & alcohol, internet & email use and lots more Find out more about our HR policies here: https://lnkd.in/gXznzU7B

If you need to make changes in your business & it results in redundancy, it's important to understand the process & what your employees are entitled to. Fair Work expect to see that you have conducted a consultation process with your employees before confirming that positions have been made redundant. If your business has less than 15 employees, you may not have to pay redundancy payments, but you still need to give your employee notice. The minimum notice periods are: 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 1 year or less 1 week More than 1 year - 3 years 2 weeks More than 3 years - 5 years 3 weeks More than 5 years 4 weeks Employees have to get an extra week of notice if they’re over 45 years old 𝗮𝗻𝗱 have worked for the employer for at least 2 years. There are some Awards that have industry specific clauses that give an entitlement to payment of redundancy payments even if you have a business with less than 15 employees. These Awards also have a different definition of redundancy. Employees covered by Awards like the Building and Construction General On-site Award & the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award are also entitled to redundancy payments even if they resign because of the definition of redundancy in these Awards. Poor performing employees can have a negative effect on a business. It’s important to make sure that you address any issues quickly to support your employee to improve their performance. Having a really good process to follow will lower the risk of an employee submitting an unfair dismissal claim if you need to let them go after a performance management process if they don't show any improvement. We are about to release our very first course that gives you a step by step process to follow when you need to manage an employee's poor performance

𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 Depending on the Award that covers your business, if you’re planning to shut down over the Christmas/New Year period, you need to give your employees between 28 days' & 2 months' written notice of the shutdown period. If an employee doesn’t have enough paid annual leave to cover the whole period of the shutdown, you can agree to annual leave in advance or leave without pay. But you can’t direct an employee to take unpaid leave if they don’t want to. Your Award will have the det
