It’s not long now until the man in the red suit comes to town! 🎅 In the lead-up to Christmas, we want to give a huge shout-out to our Superior Food Services Brisbane team for embracing the holiday spirit to help those in need. The team organised a generous gift drop for the children at QLD Children’s Hospital, followed by a festive raffle draw and morning tea. Across the branch, they donated over 100 hand-selected gifts for children aged 0-16. A special mention goes to our very own Andy, who stepped into the role of Santa Claus, delivering the gifts to the hospital and spreading smiles along the way. 🎁✨ Thank you to Carina, Kaitlyn, and Debbie for your energy and effort in organising this wonderful initiative, and to every team member who participated. For 13 incredible years, IGA has proudly partnered with Vinnies to support Australians in need, providing essential assistance with bills, rent, food, and other basic expenses—especially during challenging times like the current cost-of-living crisis. This year, Metcash team members went above for the cause, donating gifts, decorations, and food items while volunteering their time at the Vinnies Support Centre in Redfern. Together they: 🎁 Sorted and packed festive hampers 🎄 Decorated the centre to spread holiday cheer 🤝 Assisted locals in choosing meaningful gifts for their loved ones Through the combined efforts of our IGA Community Chest products and the Vinnies Christmas Appeal tokens, we’ve helped raise over $5.3 million to support communities during the festive season and in the wake of natural disasters. December 10th is Human Rights Day—a powerful reminder of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a global commitment to dignity, equality, and freedom for all. At Metcash, we’re taking this opportunity to reflect on the progress we've made in protecting human rights and the work that still lies ahead. Today, we proudly paused as an organisation to join a webinar spotlighting Metcash’s anti-slavery initiatives. The session explored practical actions we can take to drive positive change, including: - Advocating as anti-slavery champions through working group participation. - Understanding and identifying modern slavery risks. - Making more ethical and responsible choices when purchasing goods. We were thrilled to be joined by Jess Irwin and Sally Irwin from The Freedom Hub, a pioneering organisation working to end slavery in Australia and support survivors through its Survivor School. Today for MetCareers: The Frontline Edition, we’re back at Hudson Mitre 10 meeting two other stars of our hardware team – Mel Donnelly and Nick Gibbs. Mel’s a Mitre 10 guru, having held almost every store level role from check out operator to store manager, before stepping into corporate store support positions and becoming the resident inventory expert. Nick began with Mitre 10 right out of high school, and what started as a casual role picking and packing has turned into a career as a thriving young leader in our business.
