👷♀️We’re all aware of the numerous roadworks happening around the state. It’s encouraging to see infrastructure improvements and progress, as these projects are essential for building new roads and maintaining the safety of our existing ones. Driving carefully through roadworks is crucial for your safety and the safety of the roadworkers enhancing our roads. Did you know that reducing your speed from 60km/h to 40km/h for a 1km stretch of roadworks only adds about 30 seconds to your travel time? It’s a small price to pay for safety! Even if you can’t see roadworkers, they might still be on-site. They could be working above, below, or beside the road, just out of your view. There may also be construction vehicles moving in and out of the area, temporary road surfaces, changes to road alignment, or debris near the road. These are all good reasons to adhere to speed limits and follow all directions. Additionally, mobile speed cameras have been deployed at work zones across the state so stay vigilant. Check out Department of Transport and Main Roads "StreetSmarts" website for more tips and tricks for staying safe, not only in works zones, but on our roads in general. Let’s get everyone home safely for Christmas. Link below. #roadSafety #StreetSmarts #engineering #roadWorks

How much fun is December?! Last week our Director James Gleeson took part in the TMR South Coast Social Golf Club Annual Golf Day at the magnificent Gainsborough Greens in Pimpama! ⛳🏌️⛳ The scorching heat was easy to forget with such great company, plenty of laughs and the odd cool beverage to maintain hydration🍻 James and his teammates Todd McLeod, Mark Wilson and Dave Kelly put in a good show, finishing the day 3 under. A huge thank you to the South Coast team for organising another fun day and congratulations to all the prize winners. It is by far our favourite time of the year as we celebrate our achievements and look forward to what 2025 has in store. A special thank you to Alan Stone and Michael Burton for your dedication to organising such a great event every year. Marvel Engineers is proud to be involved as a sponsor of this fantastic day. Looking forward to 2025! #WeAreMarvel #transport #engineering #infrastructure #Xmas2024 #fun #golfDays

🎄It's that time of year when the Marvel crew comes together to celebrate the festive season and our 2024 successes. 🏆 This year, Team Marvel showcased their competitive spirit (who knew engineers could be so fierce?) with an entertaining game of darts and a few quiet drinks, followed by a delicious dinner. The darts were a huge hit 🎯 The team shared the glory around with Elise Brown, Natalie Warren, Luke Cruickshank and Georgia O’Connor all taking home trophies. Better luck next year James Gleeson and Amelia North! But I think we can safely say Luke was the true star of the night hitting many, many bull-eyes! We hope everyone is also taking the time to celebrate their team successes and enjoy the festive season. Bring on 2025! #TeamMarvel #GreatPlaceToWork #engineering #lean #nimble #digital

Well, it's been a busy few weeks here at Marvel! Our Director's Georgia O’Connor and James Gleeson had the privilege of attending Roads Australia's Annual lunch last week at the W Brisbane. We had the pleasure of hearing from Graeme Newton, Chief Executive Officer, Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, who provided an update on the progress of the project under construction. Graeme also revisited the purpose of the project and highlighted the many economic benefits the project will bring to Brisbane by providing more mobility options with greater connectivity and accessibility within and around the CBD precinct. Considering the project commenced many years ago, it's easy to forget about why the project was needed in the first place. We really appreciated these insights. A special shout out to SMEC's Samiul Hossain who closed the event proceedings with a personal reflection on the key takeaways as he acknowledged the Country in which the event had taken place. Thank you for such a meaningful and impactful closing thought. We had such a great time connecting with friends and colleagues Matthew Hiratos, Lachlan Raso, Guy Pinzone, Mark Evans and Michael Kavourakis. We can't wait to work together to deliver the fantastic pipeline of work ahead of us. 2025, here we come!! #roads #infrastructure #transport #engineering #productivity #people #planet #projects

🎉Project Win!🎉 Marvel Engineers has been engaged to develop a 10-year footpath strategy for the six towns within the City of Karratha in Western Australia. The aim of the strategy is to provide safe passage for high need community members to access key destinations by focussing on accessibility, safety and connectivity. The City of Karratha is 15,882 km2 with more than 26,000 residents, so providing this enhanced active transport connectivity will allow locals to partake in all of the recreational activities the City has to offer and reduce their effect on the environment. We're excited to work with the City of Karratha to develop a detailed framework that clearly identifies priority upgrades for the network across the towns, and a practical implementation schedule. We'd like to thank the City of Karratha for the amazing opportunity and Adrian Bitzios from ABTT Consulting for providing his technical expertise throughout this project. #ActiveTransport #strategy #planning #pedestrian #safety #infrastructure #connectivity

Last week, Marvel's Senior Technologist Luke Cruickshank attended the BrisBIMx event, which provided some interesting insights into the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for buildings and services. Representatives from Queensland Health provided a detailed update on their BIM initiatives, demonstrating how these technologies are being integrated into the healthcare system. The team also showcased the use of Unreal Engine 5 - a software typically used for video game development - to create training simulations for hospital staff. This innovative approach leverages advanced virtual environments to enhance staff training. What an engaging way to undertake training! Additionally, the Queensland Health team discussed the crucial role of government in driving the decarbonisation and digitalisation of infrastructure, highlighting ongoing efforts to modernise and reduce the environmental impact of public services. Nathan Love, BIM Manager for Multiplex, shared insights from the multi-billion-dollar Queen’s Wharf project, emphasising best practices for BIM implementation. During the Q&A session, when asked what he would do differently if he could start the project over, Nathan noted that he would have made a stronger push for all team members to understand the significance and benefits of the BIM process. He explained that many involved in the project were initially unprepared for the project's scale and complexity. A strong vote for the power of BIM! Were you at the event? What did you think? #BIM #productivity #technology Iain Crawford

🌐Engineering Marvels: The Sphere, Las Vegas 🌐 You only have to look at the images below to know this is one awe-inspiring architectural marvel! The Sphere in Las Vegas is not only an engineering masterpiece but a technological marvel pushing the boundaries of entertainment and architecture. The US$2.3 billion (A$3.5 billion) project boasts a massive spherical screen, innovative sound systems, and cutting-edge technology that redefines the live entertainment experience. At 112 metres tall and 157 metres wide, it is the largest spherical object in the world! Boasting a 49-metre spherical screen which covers 111,484 square metres, the venue creates an immersive 360-degree experience like no other. While the end product is truly remarkable, building the structure was a feat in itself. In the five years of construction, more than 84,000 cubic metres of dirt was excavated, 4,600 cubic metres of concrete pumped into the roof (weighing over 9,000 tonnes), 2,700 tonnes of steel including 32 trusses that weigh a whopping 90 tonnes each was installed. The Sphere weighs a total of 11,800 tonnes, with a surface area of 20,400 square metres! PHEW! With artist-in-residence concerts by the likes of U2 and the Eagles, we'll be adding this to the Vegas must-do list in future! Have you been to The Sphere?
