  • It was wonderful to see so many advocates of Landcare NSW at the Parliamentary Friends of Landcare event, many whose commitment spans years.💚 Thank you to Tara Moriarty MLC and the current NSW Parliamentary Friends of Landcare Co-Chairs Steve Whan MP, Michael Kemp MP and Roy Butler MP for the ongoing support and helping make the night a true success. 👏 It was fantastic to see so many attendees, a special highlight among the guests was dedicated Landcare champion and Junior Landcare ambassador - Costa Georgiadis 🌱 As a true not-for-profit, we rely on the generosity of the broader community via donations and the commitment from funding bodies to resource the essential advocacy and leadership work of Landcare NSW. This in turn allows us to support Landcaring in NSW at every level. 👐 This is one of the reasons we are grateful for the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Landcare, and in turn, all those who came to support us at our Landcare NSW ‘Trees in the House’ event this week at Parliament House. 🪴

🌿 Last night, the Speakers Garden at the Parliament of NSW came alive with the energy and passion of Landcare NSW champions for the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Landcare ‘Trees in the House’ event. The evening began with a moving Welcome to Country by Dr Shannon Foster, followed by an introduction from NSW Parliamentary Friends of Landcare Co-Chair, Steve Whan MP, and an address from Hon Tara Moriarty MLC, Minister for Agriculture, and Landcare NSW Chair Gareth Johnston. Each speaker expressed their gratitude to Landcarers across the State for their dedication and shared their optimism for the role Landcare NSW will continue to play in strengthening biodiversity, climate adaptation, and natural capital management. The event centred on a selection of projects implemented by a variety of Landcare regions and partners, with a panel facilitated by Peter Dixon of Landcare NSW: 🌱 Dr Oliver Knox introduced his ‘Soil Ya Undies’ concept – a fun way to test soil health by burying underwear and observing their decomposition 🌱 Vanessa Anderson (Western Landcare) adapted ‘Soil Ya Undies’ to teach primary school students in Far Western NSW the importance of soil health 🌱 Ryan Lungu (OzFish Unlimited) highlighted protecting and restoring waterways for fish health, with over 80 projects in collaboration with Landcare NSW 🌱 Michael Kennedy (North Coast Regional Landcare Network/Clarence Landcare) discussed engaging Gumbaynggirr youth to connect First Nations primary school students with knowledge and understanding about koalas in the South Grafton area 🌱 Sophie Blair (Greater Sydney Landcare) presented ‘WildVenture – Landcare for Young Adults’, which addresses eco-anxiety, isolation, and disconnection by fostering youth engagement with nature and community 🌱 Also showcased was Granite Borders Landcare Committee (GBLC) innovative workshop on fire ants, raising awareness on prevention and eradication From soil health, fire ants, and habitat restoration, to engaging future generations of Landcarers and protecting waterways, the night celebrated the variety and profound impact of Landcarer efforts across NSW. • 🌱📚 We were proud to offer attendees at the recent NSW Landcare Enabling Program 2024 State Gathering a copy of 'A Practical Guide to Planting Tubestock Paddock Trees’ authored by John Baker from Hovells Creek Landcare. The book is a highly-recommended resource and has been celebrated for its invaluable insights into successful planting practices, assisting landholders and farmers in central NSW. Drawing from extensive field trials and experience, John Baker covers important topics such as: selecting appropriate species, determining the best planting locations, optimal planting times, and choosing high-quality tubestock 🌿 During National Landcare Week in August, Helen Dalton MP, Member for Murray, recognised the significance of this guide in a special presentation of the book to her by Landcare NSW CEO, Turlough Guerin, at NSW Parliament House. To read further about this wonderful book and how to obtain a copy, visit: https://lnkd.in/gv8GtP8X This initiative is made possible by the NSW Landcare Enabling Program, a collaboration between Landcare NSW and Local Land Services NSW supported by the NSW Government.
