An important opportunity from Austroads - calling for ITS professionals to complete a short survey about their Vehicle Classification Scheme. The scheme, introduced in 2023, offers an extended framework for classifying vehicles and active transport users, aiming to improve data collection and network planning. This review seeks to ensure the scheme is tailored to the needs of road authorities, transport data collectors, and the technology providers supporting their work. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 John Venables 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘅 𝗟𝗮𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱. The Max Lay Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honour of Dr Maxwell Lay, AM. Dr Lay is a pioneer, leader and ITS industry figurehead, who throughout his career passionately advocated for the advancement of #IntelligentTransportSystems in Australia, Asia Pacific and around the world. Throughout his remarkable 44-year career at Main Roads Western Australia, Mr Venables played a key role in advancing the state’s transport network, including the development of the state-of-the-art Road Network Operations Centre and overseeing operational readiness for Perth’s first Smart Freeway.
