  • After 11 incredible years, we bid farewell to Deanna, a cherished member of our Grief and Bereavement Team. Her dedication to volunteering has profoundly impacted countless individuals in our community. As volunteer of Hilda's House, Deanna has developed invaluable resources, led children's groups, facilitated the Drop-in group, and provided compassionate support through individual counseling. Her kindness and empathy have left a lasting impression on all of us. Thank you, Deanna, for your unwavering commitment and for the warmth you've shared. You will be deeply missed! • We’re deeply grateful for the ongoing support from St Edmund's College, Ipswich through their Skool 2 Skoolies bike ride fundraiser. This year, the students raised over $60,000 for Ipswich Hospice Care and St Vincent de Paul – a truly remarkable achievement! Our CEO, Gail Rogers, had the honour of speaking at the school assembly, where she wished the students well before they set off on their 115 km ride to the Gold Coast. It was truly inspiring to see the dedication and enthusiasm of these young men as they embarked on their journey for a cause greater than themselves. At the finish line, Gail, along with our valued volunteer Yvonne O'Brien, had the privilege of welcoming the senior students, joined by their sponsors and proud parents. The commitment shown by these young men was heartwarming, and it was a beautiful moment of community spirit. We were not only touched but also deeply impressed and inspired by the values we witnessed being instilled by the leadership and staff teams, and modelled by the young gentlemen of St Edmund's. Their commitment to service and community was evident throughout this remarkable initiative. The Skool 2 Skoolies ride began in 2003 with one student's pledge to ride to Surfers Paradise for charity, and it has grown into an annual tradition that’s been making a real difference for over two decades. For the past 10 years, Ipswich Hospice Care has been fortunate to be a recipient of this incredible fundraiser, and we are immensely grateful for the ongoing support. To everyone at St Edmund's College – from the students who pushed themselves to the limit, to the staff who supported them, and the parents who encouraged them – we extend our deepest thanks. Your efforts exemplify the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines the Australian community. Here’s to many more years of this fantastic tradition. You’re making a real difference and we couldn’t be more thankful. #CommunitySpirit #CharityChampions #OutstandingEffort #StEdmundsCollege #IpswichHospiceCare #StEdmundsCollege #Ipswich #StVincentDePaul

  • Wishing Camilla Rowland, CEO of Palliative Care Australia, every success as she addresses the Senate Standing Committee for Community Affairs in Brisbane. This legislation is crucial for implementing the Aged Care Royal Commission’s recommendations and improving care for the elderly. We endorse the recognition of the right to equitable access to palliative and end of life care, the need for clear definitions of these terms in the Bill, clarity around support for younger people with care needs and the phased implementation of a supported decision-making framework. These changes will enhance access to quality care in aged care settings. 👏 💜

  • At our recent Rose Ceremony, we came together to honour and remember the 78 guests who passed away in our care from July 2023 to June 2024. This intimate event, led by Ipswich Hospice Care, allowed families to connect, reflect and take meaningful pieces from the ceremony. Dr Geoff Mitchell shared the inspiring story of Hilda des Artes, founder of Hospice, and spoke passionately about caring for people. Beautiful singing by Melissa Fellows, along with heartfelt readings, brought comfort to all. We leave an excerpt from one of the readings by Carolyn Smith with you: “I watch you every day, I’m always very near. I know deep in your heart, You realise I am here. Talk to me, I hear you, Though you may not see, We share an unbroken bond That will always be." – I Never Left You by John F. Connor Thank you to all who were able to attend. For those who couldn’t, please know we are thinking of you. It was a time of remembrance, love and unity as we honoured those who touched our hearts forever.

  • The Ipswich Men's Shed Inc. recently opened its doors for a special visit, sharing morning tea with a large group of talented gentlemen—including a special guest, the resident lizard! It was especially heartwarming to see Geoff, a founding member, return to the shed at 93 years young! We had the pleasure of a behind-the-scenes look at the amazing craftwork produced by the shed members. From handcrafted pens, wooden chopping boards, painted saws and clocks to rocking horses and beautiful plants—if you can name it, they can make it! Hospice extends a huge thank you to ex-President Terry Carter, Ted Wedmaier, and all the men who showcased their incredible skills. CEO Gail Rogers and Community Engagement Lead, Maggie McNeil were particularly impressed by the range and quality of items on display. We're also incredibly grateful for their generous donation from the recent sausage sizzle. A special shout-out to Brian for sharing his wisdom on how to run a successful Bunnings sausage sizzle! • We are thrilled to introduce our new CEO/Director of Nursing, Gail Rogers, who has already made a great impact since joining us! Gail has been warmly welcomed by our team, enjoyed a cuppa with our amazing volunteers and even accepted a generous donation from the Ipswich Men's Shed Inc. during a tour of their workshop. With her wealth of experience and passion for palliative care, she’s certainly hit the ground running! Gail Rogers shares, "I have been part of the healthcare community in West Moreton since 2005 and have spent the last 3 years as the Director of Nursing/Facility Manager at Boonah Hospital. My nursing career has largely focused on smaller rural facilities, where I've learned the importance of holistic, compassionate care in partnership with the entire healthcare team, our patients and their loved ones. I'm honoured to be part of such an exceptional team and look forward to continuing the outstanding work done here." We extend our deepest thanks to René Adams, who has provided exceptional leadership over the past four years as CEO/Director of Nursing. René’s dedication has left a lasting legacy and we are grateful for her incredible contributions. René, we wish you all the best in your future endeavours as you pursue a clinical role and look forward to your ongoing involvement with us as a Nurse Practitioner. Reflecting on her time at Hospice, René says, "It has been a privilege to serve as CEO, working alongside such a compassionate team. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together, from national accreditations to the beautiful care we provide every day. Though I’m stepping down, I look forward to continuing my journey with Hospice in a clinical capacity." Lastly, a huge thank you to our Board Chair, Melinda Parcell, for her unwavering support and leadership during this transition. Melinda adds, "René has left Ipswich Hospice in an incredible position, and we are excited for the future with Gail at the helm. We are confident that the compassionate care and dedication of the Hospice team will continue to shine under her leadership." #IpswichHospiceCare #NewCEO #ThankYouRené #CommunityCare #WelcomeGail
