Yesterday, the 11th of December, marked 200 years since the end of the declaration of martial law in the Bathurst region Our President, Dr Stephen Gapps has written a blog post about the history of the declaration of martial law in 1824 on Artefacts website. The declaration was in response to resistance warfare by Wiradyuri people and signified a period of intense frontier violence. The post is based on a talk Stephen delivered at the Dhuluny Conference at Charles Sturt University in August 2024. Stephen is also the author of Gudyarra – The First Wiradyuri War of Resistance, The Bathurst War 1822-1824. Read about 'A Very Un-civil War', detailing this part of our history on Artefacts website via the link below
