  • Shout out to Austin Maynard Architects for their outstanding work at 197 – 201 St Georges Road, Fitzroy North. Bringing together a design that complements the adjacent Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library and the emerging character of St Georges Road, the team at Austin Maynard has designed a building with street activation and much needed housing in one of Melbourne’s most liveable suburbs. Very proud of our landscape teams’ design ethos to give back to the streetscape and enhance the amenity for future residents through a welcoming garden entry, attractive private lightwells, curated green roofs, cascading planters, and rooftop BBQ and communal spaces with views of Edinburgh Gardens and the Melbourne CBD. Super pleased with the outcome by all involved. Amazing work.

  • Today, we launch our new website. Inspired by the people, places, and passions that drive us, our new site reflects Hansen’s creativity, diversity, and dedication to enhancing and respecting the places and landscapes we work in. This redesign captures the ethos of our team, our projects, and the capability of our practice to deliver meaningful impact for our built and natural environment. Thank you to our clients, collaborators, and team members who have been part of our 27-year journey. Special thanks to website designer, Mikayla Winslow, for helping us coordinate our ideas into something we are proud to share with our industry partners. • We’re proud to continue our work in planning for sustainable tourism in the iconic Bay of Fires on Tasmania’s east coast. Our strategic planners and landscape architects will work with local stakeholders to guide how tourism growth is managed to protect the area’s natural, scenic, and cultural values. As visitation increases, so do pressures on sensitive landscapes and local communities. Our role is to develop a Masterplan that ensures future decisions preserve the unique character of the Bay of Fires while addressing infrastructure needs. Community and Traditional Owner input will be essential in shaping the Masterplan, drawing on the insights and perspectives of those who live in, visit, and value this special place.

  • We’re pleased to announce that VCAT has recently supported 107 affordable house-and-land dwellings in Corio, just north of Geelong. This important project promotes accessible housing, offering families a chance to settle in a rapidly growing area that has benefited from substantial government and commercial investment. Major upgrades to schools, community centers, sports facilities, and healthcare services enhance local opportunities for employment, education, and active lifestyles. Another great outcome from our Urban Design team in regional Victoria and a strong example of gentle density done well. Planning & Property Partners

  • The Barongarook Creek Gulidjan Burial Place project has won the Planning Institute of Australia Victoria Award in the Planning with Country category, recognised as an exemplar of genuine collaboration, regeneration, innovative planning, and culturally informed outcomes.   Designed by Hansen Partnership in collaboration with the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation - the representative body for the local Traditional Owners, the project addressed ecological, social, and economic constraints to restore a culturally significant space, enhancing Country’s health and well-being for past, present, and future generations.   Also receiving the 2024 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Victoria Award in the Cultural Heritage category, we are proud to see this project recognised as an exemplar across the industry for the integration of Traditional Owner voices in the full design process.

  • There was excellent stakeholder engagement at last week’s Sellicks Beach Structure Plan workshop, which was run by the Hansen Landscape Architecture and Urban Design teams along with partners Jensen PLUS and HIPDU. Over 50 attended from State and local organisations with a collective focus on how best to create a vibrant new community in Adelaide’s south. The creativity and passion from this workshop process will genuinely help inform our design philosophy over the coming weeks.
