Last week, our Director experienced the breathtaking beauty of Tasmania, where every step of a hike led to this stunning view. This reminded us that the most rewarding journeys are made one step at a time. Our students’ true reward comes through persistence — whether it is acing the maths test, reading a book for the first time, or regaining speech after a stroke. These moments of progress are part of the beautiful journey we get to share with them every day. Last Saturday night the staff at Empowering Lives had the honour of being a silver sponsor at the Teen Challenge Queensland Hope Gala dinner. Happy International Women’s Day! Did you know that the ground-breaking Arrowsmith Program was invented by Barbara Arrowsmith Young (she/her)? Her vision was to develop a program to help students with specific learning difficulties to change their brain and enhance their educational and professional lives. Barbara Arrowsmith-Young is recognised as an innovator in the field of neuroeducation. 

 Empowering Lives runs the Arrowsmith Program in Brisbane, Australia, and was founded by Kylie Ransley. She saw the amazing results this program offered and with a passion and drive, wanted to offer the people of Australia and beyond the opportunity to access it. Many people have come through Empowering Lives and had their lives changed – including being the first Arrowsmith Program in the world to assist young people coming out of addiction through Teen Challenge Queensland. Eight vulnerable students, aged between 8 and 20 years old, participated in the Arrowsmith Program - Symbol Relations exercise for 8 months. Woodcock-Johnson tests were completed before the students started and 8 months later.
