  • We are hosting a special workshop next month on behalf of the Economics Society (Victorian Branch). It will include showcasing our purpose built behavioural lab. Places are limited. RMIT Behavioural Business Lab #economics #workshop #RandomControlTrials #Differenceindifference #evaluation

EVALUATION METHODS WORKSHOP The Economic Society of Australia, Victorian Branch, warmly invites you to a one-day workshop focused on two key methodologies for policy evaluation. THE DESIGN AND CONDUCT OF RANDOMISED CONTROL TRIALS: Gain insights into the principles of designing and implementing RCTs, a gold standard for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and interventions. THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF DIFFERENCE-IN-DIFFERENCE METHODOLOGY: Learn how this powerful econometric technique can be applied to assess causal relationships and evaluate policy impacts over time. These techniques have recently emerged as the preferred methods for policy evaluation in both government and industry, making this workshop invaluable for professionals seeking to enhance their analytical skills and improve evidence-based decision-making. Details of the Workshop: Date: Tuesday 19 November 2024 Time: 9.00am - 5.00pm Cost: $275 for members / $350 for non members (click here to join now)   Venue: Behavioural Business Lab, RMIT, 405 Russell Street, Melbourne Hosted by esteemed practitioners Dmitry Ryvkin and Dr Rebecca Valenzuela REGISTER HERE: https://lnkd.in/gNKY5kcj #economics #randomcontroltrials #differenceindifference #experiments #methods

  • Jonathan Boymal shares his thoughts in Forbes on generative #AI and business #education. #economics #expertise #future

I write about individuals in the world of work (in the past, present, and future) 📌 Author | International Keynote Speaker | Professor @ HSLU | Forbes contributor

What impact will generative AI have on business education in the months and years to come? I have no idea! But I decided to ask some colleagues of mine who might (or, at least, are in a much better position to speculate than I am): Jonathan Boymal, Douglas MacKevett, Patricia Feubli, and Donald Clark What they told me can be grouped into five questions: 1️⃣ Will The Use Of Generative AI Be Good For Student Learning? 2️⃣ How Will The Social And Emotional Dimensions Of Learning Be Maintained? 3️⃣ Will Professors Remain The Gatekeepers Of Knowledge? 4️⃣ Will Lecturers And Disciplines Be Relevant In The Future? 5️⃣ Will Business Schools Even Be Relevant in the Future? Want to learn more? Check out my latest piece for Forbes. 🔗 in first comment RMIT University & Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts --- 🔔 I write about #leadership, #technology, #history (and, especially, where they overlap). 🖇️ Feel free to follow or connect... ♻️ And thanks for re-posting...

Australia’s fertility rate has reached a historic low of 1.5 babies per woman, far below the replacement rate of 2.1. In the short term, lower birth rates allow more spending per person on education and healthcare. However, over time, declining fertility, combined with increasing life expectancy, will lead to an aging population, raising some serious questions about how we can maintain our country’s workforce, sustain economic growth and fund important services. Efforts to boost fertility through parental leave, childcare subsidies, and financial incentives have shown limited success, partly due to delayed family formation. While immigration has helped counter low fertility, the global decline in birth rates limits the availability of young, skilled workers. Productivity-enhancing technological advances, such as AI and robotics, may ease the impact of workforce shortages, but technology alone won’t address these demographic challenges, which will require a broader range of policy responses. In our article for The Conversation Australia + NZ, Sarah Sinclair, Ashton de Silva and I explore what’s going on with fertility rates here and around the world, what it might it mean for the future of our economy, and what we can we do about it.

Australia’s fertility rate has reached a record low. What might that mean for the economy?

Last week was a big week - I received a couple of awards for my work during the year - incredibly grateful that I get to do what I do, but even more humbled that the work gets recognition. I was named the RMIT College of Business and Law Media Star for 2024. This is for "her ability to get to the heart of a topic and convey its impacts on the general public has made her as a sought-after expert for media commentary on a diverse range of topics, including the ‘lying flat’ trend, dynamic ticket pricing, supermarket price gouging and cost of living". She was featured on 7 News, ABC (TV, radio and online), The Age, Australian Financial Review and news.com.au as well as industry publications such as Retail World Magazine and Ad News." It's overwhelming that this commentary reached over 817.5 million people across 774 media outlets. This wouldn't have been possible without the exceptional guidance of Nellie G. and Ben Nielsen, who have been instrumental in this journey. I'm equally grateful to receive the Teaching Excellence Award from the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing for our work in the Business Graduate Portfolio. This recognition truly belongs to our entire teaching team - Jane Chen, PhD, Gabrielle Hernan,Rahul Soans, Guillaume Galanos, and Dr Prad Wijayaratne . Your dedication to our student's success makes all the difference.

Last night, we held the Blockchain Industry Awards 'The Blockies' at the scenic WatersEdge, set against the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. We celebrated and honored twelve leaders who have made significant impact in advancing the digital economy through Blockchain and Digital Assets. The gala was not just a celebration of achievements but also a testament to the sectors spirit of giving back. The highlight was a charity auction, led by Damian Amamoo where the artwork "Elon Buys Bitcoin" was acquired, raising $10,000 for the UNICEF Children's Fund. A huge congratulations to Independent Reserve, the proud owners of piece! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our judges, whose expertise and diligence were pivotal in the selection process, and to our sponsors, whose generous support made this event possible.
