  • The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign, calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. On Wednesday, 27 November Eastern Health staff were joined by community partners FVREE, The Orange Door, Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) and Anglicare, to take part in the Respect Walk, in support of ending gender-based violence. Almost 1 in 3 women around the world over the age of 15 have been subjected to physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. Eastern Health is committed to supporting community members experiencing family violence across the lifespan. #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence

“Reform to me is about transformation and change. It's about being future focused, and how we are improving and changing what we do to meet the needs of our community.” Lisa Fedrick started her career at Eastern Health as a Senior Speech Pathologist. Her interest in the complexities of healthcare as a system has led her to undertake a master’s degree in business management, which helped shape her career. In 2021, when the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic waves arose, she went on to become the Pandemic Planning & Response Manager. “I think the pandemic response has given me great experience to bring the right people in the same room and facilitate conversations to help them look at those complex problems, and how we might shift towards what solutions we might be looking at.” Now as the Director of Pandemic and Reform Projects, her advice to others reflects this unique career path. “My advice is to be patient. Opportunities come, but they don’t always come from where you expect them to; keep learning and looking.”

At the Hamilton Centre, our mission has always been to transform the way Victorians experience care for co-occurring mental health and addiction challenges. It's an incredible honour to see the dedication of our team, alongside the talented design researchers from Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA), recognised once again. This time, we're thrilled to share that the Centre has won the Victorian Premier's Design Award in the Service Design category. This award celebrates the co-design consultation process, which brought together participants from over 40 organisations to translate the Royal Commission's Recommendation 36 for Victoria's Mental Health System into actionable change. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at MADA, our outstanding Hamilton Centre team, and our clinical partners at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Austin Health, Goulburn Valley Health, Eastern Health, and Western Health for helping bring our mission to life. Together, we're making meaningful progress towards better care for those who need it most.
