About us
At Developing Talent, we are dedicated to helping organisations create and cultivate inclusive workplaces to boost their productivity, innovation and performance. Organisations are becoming increasingly aware that diversity and inclusion are critical to their performance. Diversity and inclusion has become a CEO level priority that impacts all levels of an organisation’s management, its processes, and policies. The Diversity Council of Australia defines diversity as the mix of people in your organisation. Diversity refers to all the visible and invisible ways in which we differ, that includes age, gender, education, values, attitudes and beliefs. Inclusion is about getting this mix to work. It’s about creating workplaces where employees are treated with fairness and respect, feel they belong and where it is safe to share their ideas. Creating inclusive workplaces fuels performance, driving productivity, profits and competitive advantage. Developing Talent can help you cultivate a happier and more productive workplace and boost your organisational performance.

There was an outcry last month when journalist Lara Tingle from the ABC described Australia as a racist country. Those of us from multicultural backgrounds that have experienced racism first hand might agree with her. In this article from The Conversation, they asked 5 experts what they thought. See the results here. Is understanding the problem the first step to solving the problem? https://buff.ly/3W23Wnn #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #DEI #Racism

Globally there has been a pushback against DEI initiatives, with some people even describing them as woke. These calls have resulted in suggestions of renaming initiatives in the hope they will get traction. This article from Fast Company suggests we should use our energy for action instead of word games. Does reporting on ESG initiatives lead to diversity washing? This research suggests that whilst the use of DEI language is increasing, the same cannot be said about inclusive hiring practices or significant action heralding real change. Understanding the challenges that marginalised sections of the community face in the workplace, is one of the first steps towards diversity and inclusion. This Explainer on Intersectionality from the Diversity Council of Australia is a useful resource. It explains that Intersectionality refers to how some people experience compounded discrimination due to multiple marginalising and interlinked characteristics. As part of their research into culturally and racially marginalised (CARM) women in leadership, they have found that understanding what it is, and taking an intersectional approach when designing, delivering and measuring DEI initiatives means that they are more likely to be inclusive and will benefit all women.
