Guess who made National Geographic’s prestigious Best of the World list for 2025 — the Murray River 🙌 Their annual list of awe-inspiring places helps travellers get a jump on planning for the year ahead. For 2025, it includes a blend of both surprising up-and-coming destinations and timeless locations that have something new and exciting to offer, from a new rock-climbing haven in India to Stockholm’s new and lesser-known island-hopping trail. The Murray is the only Australian destination included. The selection process involves National Geographic’s team of travel experts and Nat Geo Traveller‘s international editorial teams. They also highlighted the region’s new PS Australian Star by Murray River Paddlesteamers. It’s set to commence cruising in mid-2025 from Echuca. Check out the full list at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld or find out more about visiting The Murray at visitthemurray.com.au. Image credits: Destination NSW

TAFE NSW is partnering with Destination NSW to develop and deliver training programs jointly funded by the Federal Government’s NSW Choose Tourism Program. The courses have been designed to address industry workforce shortages by encouraging Australians to pursue careers in the visitor economy and helping operators attract, retain, and upskill staff. The subsidised training program is aligned with the Visitor Economy 2030 Review (to be released within the coming weeks) which aims to grow the sector in NSW to 450,000 workers. The new training programs include: • An ‘Introduction to Visitor Economy’ microskill: a self-directed online course, designed to provide foundational knowledge and explore careers in the visitor economy industry. The course will be available for free to the public for six weeks after its release and then fully subsidised for NSW school students. • Five one-hour video masterclasses: these pre-recorded masterclasses will be available on the TAFE NSW website and will feature industry experts such as Scenic World, Merlin Entertainments and W Hotels. • Modernised Certificate III in Tourism: Set for delivery in 2025, this updated qualification will include visitor economy skills and incorporate contemporary case studies, and assessments based on industry feedback.
