This milestone event not only celebrated five decades of groundbreaking scientific progress but also highlighted the exciting opportunities for young professionals in #DefenceScience. These early career achievers are a testament to the incredible potential within the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders.

🧬 The Safeguarding Australia through Biotechnology Response and Engagement (SABRE) Alliance held the Futures Summit in October to discuss scientific innovation, the new National Science Research Priorities and their significance to the defence landscape. Speakers included Dr Cathy Foley (Australia’s Chief Scientist), Dr Sylvie Perreau (Chief of Sensors & Effectors, DSTG), Lieutenant General (Retired) Rick Burr (Former Chief of the Australian Army), Dr Hannah Brown (Acting Executive Director, South Australian Research and Development Institute), Adrian Turner (CEO, ExoFlare) and facilitated by Prof Mark Hutchison (Director of Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing). Canada and Australia are strengthening our defence science and technology research relationship to fast-track advanced missile technologies and inform next-generation defence solutions. Gary Stewart, chief executive QinetiQ Australia Sector and Chief Defence Scientist Prof Tanya Monro, AC, celebrate at the opening of QinetiQ’s state-of-the-art South Australian research facility at Mawson Lakes. The first-of-its-kind research facility will support several key programs including the Directed Energy Program, in partnership with #DSTG, to support the establishment and commercialisation of a high energy laser capability in Australia, drawing on the company’s expertise from QinetiQ’s parent company, a member of the DragonFire consortium on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence.
