  • Foundations in Working through an FDV Informed Lens What a phenomenal day partnering with the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAMHS)! 🙌 This dedicated team of practitioners brought energy, curiosity, and a strong drive to engage in organic discussions throughout the day. This interactive training fostered in-depth exploration of coercive control and its visibility within the workplace, providing key insights and practical tools for application. It sparked powerful discussions and actionable takeaways: 🔍 A nuanced understanding of coercive control and the micro-aggressions that form patterns of behaviour. 🛡️ The importance of capturing information through an FDV-informed lens to effectively identify and assess risk. 🌏 Employing a curious and culturally informed approach when working with diverse communities, particularly when addressing additional complexities and risks. 📋 The application of structured professional judgment in risk assessment and case management. 👶 Strengthening strategies to mitigate the impact of systems abuse while supporting the recovery of children and families affected by perpetrator behaviors. ⚠️ Deepening awareness of how users of violence may attempt to disrupt a child’s recovery and identifying effective interventions. The feedback? Overwhelmingly positive! The session left participants eager for more, including deeper dives into risk assessment, documentation, and strategies for supporting children affected by FDV. Ready to be part of the change? Let’s collaborate to create safer, more informed workplaces as part of a whole-of-systems response to family and domestic violence. 📩 Email Sharon at [email protected] to find out more. #FamilyViolenceAwareness #WorkplaceTraining #DARTInstituteAustralia #CoerciveControl #SaferCommunities #MentalHealth #FDVInformedTraining #FDVInformed #FoundationsinFamilyViolence #FamilyViolenceTraining #SafeHomes #SaferSchools #SaferWorkplaces #WholeofSystemResponse

  • Breaking Barriers: DART & Palmerston Champion a Whole-of-Service Approach to Family Safety Earlier this month, Jolene Ellat and Marnie DIllon presented alongside Palmerston Association's Tina Edwards-Pope and @Andy Niblock at the National Family Safety Summit. 🎤 Here’s a glimpse into the heart of the conversation: Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AoD) rarely exist in isolation. ➡️ The intersection of these issues creates unique challenges, compounding harm to individuals, families, and communities. Our collaboration with Palmerston over the past year has been all about integrating FDV knowledge into the AoD sector, empowering their teams to recognise and respond to these intersecting issues with trauma-informed care and a whole-of-service approach. From training staff to spot the signs of FDV to fostering a cultural shift that links FDV and AoD misuse, we’ve worked together to build a continuum of practice. This continuum supports not just effective responses but also empathetic, holistic care for those navigating both challenges. As Palmerston enters their second year on this journey, they’re leading the way in transforming how we approach these critical issues. Their commitment to ongoing learning, collaboration, and compassion has been inspiring. It’s been an absolute privilege for DART to support Palmerston on their FDV-informed journey, and we’re excited to see what’s next as we continue to work together. Let’s keep building a whole-of-service response to create real pathways to healing and recovery. 💙 #NationalFamilySafetySummit #FDVInformedPractice #CollaborationForChange #DARTInstituteAustralia #PalmerstonAssociation

  • Coercive Control in Family Violence: A Game-Changing Training for the Department of Communities We had an incredible day with the Working with Children Screening Unit team at the Department of Communities WA! A one-day deep dive into coercive control within the context of family violence, and wow, the response was overwhelming. 💥 Here are some key takeaways: 🔍 Understanding Coercive Control: The team got a deep dive into the intricate patterns of coercive control through the umbrella of coercion. The lightbulb moments were plentiful! 📊 Mapping Perpetrator Behaviours: We explored how microaggressions can shine a light on the complexity of abuse, and survivor resistance. 📝 The Power of Documentation: A major takeaway—how capturing family violence in case notes and assessments, even if outcomes stay the same, helps us begin forming patterns of behaviour early. Recognising lack of perpetrator insight or empathy - key to early intervention. 💡 Real-World Application: The deidentified case study at the end of the day brought visibility to the complexity of this work and how the team can use an FDV-informed approach moving forward. Overall, the training was a massive success, and the group is already looking forward to future training on case analysis and documentation. 👉 Ready to dive deeper into coercive control and family violence? • Last Saturday, our CEO, Jolene Ellat, took the stage in Mirrabooka to shine a spotlight on a critical but often overlooked issue: the role of African men in addressing family violence. Family violence remains a significant challenge in many African communities, affecting women, children, and even men themselves. But here’s the truth: breaking the cycle requires men to step up, engage in honest conversations, and lead the charge for change. Traditionally, the topic has been stigmatised or dismissed, but for real change to occur, men must be central to the discussion. A huge thank you to Victor Aneseolu and the Organisation of African Communities in WA (OACWA) for inviting Jolene to present on the various forms of family violence affecting women and children across African communities, and to Zonta House Refuge Association, WA Police Force and Men's Health & Wellbeing Western Australia for supporting the event. It was inspiring to see over 70 African male leaders in the community engaging in challenging discussions and recognising family violence as an issue that must be addressed. Through these conversations, we’re shifting stigmas, breaking down barriers, and building safer, stronger communities - one conversation at a time. 👉 If you would like to engage DART to speak at your next event on family violence, please email Sharon at [email protected], and let’s start the conversation. #LeadershipInAction #FamilyViolencePrevention #CommunityStrength #DARTInstituteAustralia #BreakingTheCycle #FDVInformed
