🌟 Collaborating for Change in Western NSW 🌟 Yesterday, Stephanie Crossley and Adrian Vuong facilitated an online workshop to strengthen collaboration between the Western NSW Local Health District and local councils. The session focused on identifying opportunities to reimagine local streets and support vibrant, active communities. Over five focused hours, we guided participants through: ✅ Identifying a problem street and its challenges ✅ Generating and prioritising ideas into do-now and do-later actions ✅ Developing a street design solution ✅ Evaluating whether the solution met its goals ✅ Crafting a compelling pitch to communicate the solution: why it’s needed, who benefits, what it is, and how it will be implemented 🔍 Key challenges and insights 🔎 : 🚗 Pivoting pre-1960s car-centric street design towards streets for people and prosperity. This isn’t an easy task, especially in regions where infrastructure was built with vehicles in mind rather than people. 🌡️ The harsh environment—droughts, flash floods, high winds, and extreme temperatures—requires innovative, immediate-term alternatives to traditional solutions like street trees. 🏘️ Community groups hold significant autonomy and influence, far greater than in metropolitan areas. Their engagement and support are crucial to success. To implement change effectively in such contexts, we identified the importance of incremental change. Subtle, step-by-step improvements can build trust, respect long-standing relationships, and, most importantly, turn powerful community groups into advocates for change rather than adversaries. This approach helps ensure meaningful progress while maintaining community buy-in in sensitive settings where nothing goes unnoticed. Through this workshop, participants developed impactful solutions and crafted a persuasive pitch to secure stakeholder support, setting the stage for long-term transformation. Workshops like these aren’t about passive learning—they’re about empowering people, fostering collaboration, and creating strategies tailored to unique contexts. Big thank you to Karen Lloyd Hayley Crump (Vaughan) Alison Karbowiak Kelly Cook for organising the day! #Collaboration #RegionalChallenges #WorkshopFacilitation #TransportPlanning #ActiveStreets #CommunityAdvocacy #CrossleyTP #WNSWLHD #GuidingCommunities #PublicHealth

🗣️Engaging the Community: Insights from Our Pop-Up Exhibition 👂🏻 Yesterday, Adrian Vuong and Yiwei Pan led a pop-up exhibition to share the outcomes of our workshops and walkshops, showing how community input directly influenced the street plan and strategy. It was a great opportunity to see what resonated with the community and to test if we got it right. One thing became very clear: people feel strongly about keeping footpaths as pedestrian-only spaces. The idea of sharing them with cyclists, even under-16s who are permitted to ride there, sparked concerns. This highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing the needs of different users in our public spaces. It’s a reminder that thoughtful, inclusive design is crucial to reduce conflict and ensure our streets work for everyone. What do you think is the best way to address these kinds of challenges? #CommunityLed #CommunityEngagement #PopUp #Listening #PlanningStreets #StreetDesign #Crossleytp #GuidingCommunities

🚆 From Train Rides to Big Ideas in Wollongong 🚶♀️ Today, Yiwei Pan and Stephanie Crossley made their way to Wollongong (via train and a pleasant stroll into town) to deliver and facilitate a dynamic Design Dash Workshop for our clients. This wasn’t a “sit back and watch” experience—it was roll-up-your-sleeves, get-involved kind of work! 💪 We guided stakeholders through the local context, helping them: ✔ Develop problem statements ✔ Identify and challenge assumptions ✔ Brainstorm and prioritise ideas to uncover the most feasible solutions ✔ Craft a conceptual strategy for the study area ✔ Reflect on the strategy and transform it into a succinct Elevator Pitch Our approach ensures that workshops aren’t just productive—they’re valuable, collaborative, and focused on achieving clear, actionable outcomes. With a bit of expert guidance and the right structure, we help clients go from big challenges to concrete strategies in just one session. Want to experience one of our workshops? 🌟 Reflecting on the UNSW Business School SHINE Awards 🌟 Last night, Stephanie Crossley and Jennifer Chen attended the UNSW SHINE Awards (Showcasing Hosts in Nurturing Excellence), celebrating the industry partners who nurture UNSW Business School students. As Australia’s No.1 business school (AFR BOSS), UNSW is dedicated to fostering excellence, and CrossleyTP has been proud to partner with them over the past year by providing project consultancy placements and internships to nurture the next generation of talent. The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with peers from diverse sectors and exchange ideas. One conversation, in particular, left a lasting impact. We spoke with a non-profit operating across South West Sydney (everything south of the Harbour Bridge) that supports women impacted by domestic violence. They shared an alarming statistic—their client numbers have risen by 50% over the last three years while funding struggles to keep pace. Factors like income stress, cultural challenges, and language barriers contribute to this increase and are sobering reminders of the social impact of inequality. Reflecting on this conversation reaffirmed our commitment at CrossleyTP to planning accessible, affordable transport options, especially for communities where access to income-generating opportunities and safe social spaces is vital. When we think about the connections between transport, economic access, and community well-being, we’re reminded of our responsibility to support resilience through thoughtful, inclusive planning. Thank you to UNSW Business School for an inspiring evening and to all the incredible partners we connected with who are making a difference. 🚀 Launching the SafeSteps App! 🚀 We’re excited to share our latest innovation, the SafeSteps App, adding an extra layer of safety and accountability to our site work. 📱 With SafeSteps, our team can check in and out of sites with ease, sending real-time email updates to the Project Manager and our Director. This ensures everyone has reached their planned locations and reviewed their Safe Working Method Statements (SWMS) or Job Safety Plans (JSP) before starting any site activities. It’s a streamlined way to enhance safety and maintain a digital record of compliance. This app was inspired by valuable feedback from our audits, showing the importance of continuous improvement. Huge thanks to Katrina Salter for developing the app, our team for testing and adopting it, and Matt (Mehdi) Poosti for the audit insights (and critique!) that sparked this innovation. 👉 Want to learn more about how SafeSteps can enhance safety on-site? 🗣️ 💡 November is shaping up to be a vibrant month for community engagement! We kicked things off yesterday with a pop-up community consultation to promote the "Have Your Say" page for the Victoria Avenue Movement and Place Plan. It was great to see so many people take the time to walk through the plan and provide their feedback. We were lucky to have Yiwei Pan with us, translating the plan into Mandarin for attendees, and ensuring everyone had the opportunity to share their thoughts. Today, we’re excited to hold an online interactive workshop on parking, where even the three little pigs will appear in our discussions! These efforts are all about guiding our communities to make informed decisions about their streets and public spaces. We look forward to hearing more ideas and insights! #CrossleyTP #CommunityEngagement #GuidingCommunities #Listening

🚗 Driving Community Outcomes Through Smarter Parking Strategies! 🚗 At CrossleyTP, we know parking management isn’t just about cars—it’s about people and place. In our latest in-house training session we delved into parking strategies and how they support community outcomes and placemaking. 🔑 Key Policy Levers: From dynamic pricing to permit schemes like residential, tradie, and the Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS), we explored how different policy levers influence parking supply, demand, and user behaviour—ultimately helping to create liveable communities and strengthening local economies. 📊 Measuring the effectiveness of parking: Our team learnt how to measure success using metrics like parking volume, turnover, and load. These metrics help ensure that parking solutions are efficient and responsive to each community’s unique needs. 📍 This session wasn’t just about technical skills—it was also about seeing how parking integrates into placemaking. By aligning strategies with community values, we help create vibrant, people-centred places that: ♿ Improve access for all, including families and people with disabilities. 🚗 Reduce congestion, enhance walkability, and make public spaces more attractive. 🚌 Support sustainable transport by integrating parking with active transport and public transit. At CrossleyTP, we’re committed to guiding communities with tailored strategies that foster thriving places. 🌿🚶♀️🚗 #CrossleyTP #Placemaking #CommunityOutcomes #ParkingManagement #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #TransportPlanning #CrossleyTP #GuidingCommunities
