  • 😱🛩️MY TURN PAD!!🛩️😱 This happen to anyone else?? While 👨🏻✈️ #pilots 👩🏽✈️never intend to damage the #runway or #apron it happens. A slightly sharper turn than usual and rear mains🛞 (in this case) can scrub on the chip seal and damage the surface. As usual, we can only control our portion of the operation and we should focus on that. What can we do: 📝 Timely and accurate reporting. It’s not a blame game, but it tracks trends and keeps the issue front of mind. ➰ Ensure lead in / out lines are visible. If they can’t see the lines, how can they follow them? 📡 Remind pilots to make “MAX RAD” turns. A friendly reminder via radio or walk up the stairs and ask nicely if you have time. 〰️ Ensure you have some cold mix and a gympy hammer. Some areas can be rolled using a baggage tug too! If you can’t prevent it, be ready to fix it. 📕 Change notes in your manual from “turning node” to “turn pad”. They aren’t considered NODES anymore.

  • 🧐📑EDUCATION📑🧐 While we learn new things every day and have a stockpile ✨ of valuable #aerodrome information floating around our 🧠 brains, a course like this can help to connect all of these dots 💠 and create an image of the operation and our responsibilities within it. This could open your mind to why 📚 #managers make decisions and give you a peak behind the curtain to their way of thinking and additional considerations. Continuing the self #education journey as an #ARO is vital to keeping engaged, and possibly taking the next step into a #management role👩🏽🎓 And of course….why not ask your company to pay for it😜

Aviation is one of the most highly regulated industries in the world 🛫 From flight operations to ground support, this complex landscape of legal and regulatory obligations is rarely understood in its entirety by those operating solely within their own department. But having personnel with the tools to both understand and improve compliance is of benefit to every aviation organisation. ⚙ Our 4-day Managing Aviation Compliance course covers a broad spectrum of compliance obligations – not only those specific to the safety and security of air travel, but also financial, taxation, human resources (HR), data protection and general workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements that all organisations face. Here's what participants from our last Virtual course had to say: 👍 "Very well delivered course." 👌 "Very relevant content to my current role." ✍ "Practical exercises were thought provoking and required a good effort." 🤝 "I have done other Southpac courses and found the training to be excellent." The 4 day course is highly beneficial to personnel from all aviation organisations, and includes four nationally recognised units that can be used towards the BSB50920 Diploma of Quality Auditing. Check out our next Virtual course coming up from 25 - 28 November: https://lnkd.in/de4GzU7R #aviation #compliance

  • 🛫🛩️ACTIVE RUNWAYS🛩️🛫 🤯You don’t want to see this over your head! Many aerodromes around Australia have such infrequent and ADHOC services that communications for maintenance personnel or inspections become complacent. Famous last words: “We don’t have any flights today…..” Despite what your schedule says, there are usually more aircraft around your Aerodrome that may require your runway. So, we focus on what we CAN do: 📢 Make RWY entry broadcast on your CTAF 📻 Monitor CTAF for inbound calls 🚜 Induct maintenance teams 🔊 Have extra radios available ⬛️ Always assume someone is listening As always, add your hints and tips or even a story of an adhoc arrival 🙏🏼🙏🏼

  • The Bureau of Meteorology do have some great explanatory information that can help decipher the shorthand you find in most reports. A great source of knowledge and one of our browser shortcuts!

  • 📡🌦️WEATHER REPORTS🌦️📡 It’s been argued around various #aerodromes exactly what #weather information can be provided to 👩✈️ pilots. From our understanding, the #pilot of an #aircraft cannot use weather data for the purpose of #flight planning, unless it has been authorised by the Director of the Bureau of Meteorology. So…. This means us #ARO’s can say whatever we want, but the crew can’t use it for flight planning.?? Maybe? Either way, we don’t want an incident or our voices being played in court on a CVR☠️. We’ve even heard #flight operations teams argue that providing wind direction to the pilot on decent into our ports isn’t considered flight planning. ✅What we can #report: 🔊 Report on wetness of the #runway (GRF) 🔊 Report on what you can see. 🔊 Ensure all weather facilities are operational. 🔊 Read directly from an authorized source. 🔊 Daily check of your AWIB, AWIS and NAIPS. ❌What we shouldn’t report: 🔊 Estimated cloud heights. 🔊 Which runway the wind is favoring. 🔊 From an unapproved weather station. For advise on weather facilities, we’ve always had great experiences with Vaisala. For advise on what you should and shouldn’t report to a pilot…. Civil Aviation Safety Authority

One more visual from the Miyazaki Airport, (KMI/RJFM), Japan where a World War era undetonated bomb exploded on the Taxiway in proximity, just after an aircraft departure on 2nd October. More than 80 flights to and from Miyazaki were canceled due to the closure of the runway, owing to this incident. Miyazaki Airport location was used as a former imperial Japanese navy flight training field, built in 1943 during the war, and then in 1954 civilian flights connecting Osaka and other places were inaugurated. This news sure took off quickly! Roy Hill recently hosted 3 Squadron from the Royal Australian Air Force in an exercise to upskill Ginbata Airport staff to assist in the event they are required. This exercise provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between two of Australia’s essential industries - mining and defence. Roy Hill and Hancock Prospecting’s businesses have a proud history of supporting Australia’s veterans and Australia's military, and our Executive Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart AO, has generously supported veterans and their families over many years. #RoyHill
