Every minute, every hour, every day we’re working towards a cancer free future.
About us
As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control organisation, we are leading the change needed to reduce the impact of cancer now and in the future. Cancer Council leads national action to improve cancer control and care for people with cancer and their caregivers. Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. We also advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care. Our independence means we can direct our funding where it is most needed and influence the public agenda to improve outcomes for people with all types of cancer, and across all stages of the cancer journey. We work with our members (the eight state and territory Cancer Councils) to prevent and control cancer, and provide support for people affected by cancer. Researchers at the University of Wollongong are seeking participants for focus groups to look at Australia’s new physical activity guidelines 📢📢 Australia is rolling out new physical activity guidelines that now consider all types of movement throughout the day. You are invited to join a focus group where you will get to review the draft guidelines for physical activity, sedentary time, and sleep. You will be asked your thoughts on how clear and relevant these guidelines are to you, which should take approximately 60 minutes. Participants will also be reimbursed with a $40 grocery e-gift card after the focus groups. The researchers would love to hear from you if you are aged 18+ and an English speaker, and are particularly interested in hearing from people with disability, or a chronic condition. Your feedback is crucial in shaping these guidelines and ensuring the advice given is clear and effective. Focus groups will be held online on the following dates: - Tuesday 7th January @ 6pm AEDT - Wednesday 8th January @ 6pm AEDT - Monday 13th January @ 6pm AEDT - Tuesday 14th January @ 6pm AEDT To express your wish to participate or for more information, please contact [email protected]. Are you or someone you know receiving cancer treatment or surveillance? We’re currently conducting a crucial research study on the out-of-pocket costs associated with accessing cancer treatment in Australia, looking to gather data to better understand the financial burdens. The insights gained will be instrumental in our policy and advocacy work to mitigate these costs. All responses will be confidential and used solely for research purposes. Please help us by sharing this survey through your networks. Thank you for your support! Together, we can make a difference. We are pleased to announce that Cancer Council Australia and the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care are teaming up again to launch two crucial National Skin Cancer Prevention Campaigns starting this week and continuing over summer. ☀️ End The Trend https://brnw.ch/21wPhj4 This campaign targets Australians aged 18-30, aiming to shift harmful suntanning attitudes and promote sun protection. Building on last year's success, we’ll enhance our strategy with optimised ad creatives, a strong influencer presence, and strategic partnerships to drive cultural conversations. ☀️ Save Your Skin https://brnw.ch/21wPhj5 This campaign focusses on increasing the portion of men over 40 who self-report being SunSmart. Formative research identified this group (and sub targets of men who work outdoors and those who live in rural and remote locations) as needing targeted sun protective messaging. We will continue to utilise the 'Same Goes for You' and Test Cricket creative integrations, as well as leveraging new partnerships in contextual environments for additional opportunities. With research highlighting unhealthy attitudes and social norms around suntanning and UV exposure, let’s break the cycle and encourage sun-safe behaviours. 🔉Stay tuned... #SkinCancerPrevention #EndTheTrend #SaveYourSkin #SunSafety #CancerCouncilAustralia

‘Disability’ can mean different things for different people, referring to unique physical, sensory, and cognitive needs. Disabilities affect people directly or indirectly with varying impacts on daily life. We must address the gap in healthcare equity, and empower people with disabilities, as well as their carers and their families, to participate in cancer screening. 🔗 Check out https://lnkd.in/df83wVr2 to learn more about Screen Me! and watch the short film. 🔗 Check out www.ndis.gov.au to learn about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for specialist government-funded disability support services. #CancerScreening #DisibilityRights #HealthEquity #EarlyDetection #AccessibilityMatters

We’re pleased to share our Annual Review, which highlights the progress and achievements we've made in our mission to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer across Australia. As the nation’s only cancer charity working across every type of cancer, our mission is unique. From strengthening Australia’s tobacco control measures and running national skin cancer prevention campaigns to working on improving cancer-related outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in our new Reconciliation Action Plan, our work is helping to create a healthier future for all. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports us - whether through donations, advocacy, or volunteer efforts. Together, we’re making strides toward a cancer-free future, and we’re getting closer every day. Check out the annual review here: https://brnw.ch/21wP6lV

We’re beyond excited to announce that Cancer Council Australia and The Australian Government have WON an ARIA Award! 🎶🎉 JK-47's track for Laneway Festival, as part of last year’s End the Trend campaign, has been awarded “Best Use of an Australian Recording in an Advertisement.” The campaign not only raised awareness about skin cancer prevention but also challenged attitudes towards suntanning, making a real impact - reminding Australians to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide. A massive thank you to everyone who made this possible - our amazing partners at Bolster Group, Publicis Groupe, Keep Left, and of course, the very talented JK-47. https://lnkd.in/gfXTcvcd
