  • Sarsha Brisbane and @hamishwilson.art are the winners of the Emerging Artists Awards for 2024! Sarsha’s piece is called ‘The Unseen Wendy Watson,’ an artwork that challenges the conventions of portraiture and draws attention to the very act of looking. The artwork is a collection of oil on mirrors. Hamish’s artwork has a sense of unbalance which is reinforced in the portrait by the composition with the crossed legs looming forward and the chair seeming to tilt as the floor comes forward. —-------- The Brisbane Portrait Prize Finalists exhibition runs at Flagship slq Gallery at the State Library of Queensland from 3rd of August to November 10th. Entry is free and all are welcome. We can’t wait to see you there! #artists #contemporaryart #artwork # art #statelibraryofqueensland #brisbaneportraitprize #emergingartist #portraitart

  • Dive into the world of portraiture with another wonderful weekend of Artist Spotlight's brought to you by the Brisbane Portrait Prize! 🎨 Saturday at 11am: Sorour Fattahi will join us to discuss her self-portrait which is a powerful testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity. Created entirely from her own hair, this delicate and intricate work reflects the artist's personal journey of resilience and growth. Amanda Gross will also be in the gallery to discuss her piece of Emma Cane - a haunting piece about isolation and vulnerability that comes from emotional disruption in a persons life. 🎨 Sunday at 11am:  Hear from, Elizabeth Barden about how her self-portrait is a poignant exploration of anxiety and fear in our increasingly technology-driven world. With her hands covering her face, she invites us to consider the implications of AI and the unregulated presence of digital images in our lives. Through her use of charcoal and her rejection of digital tools, Barden emphasises the importance of human connection and the tangible nature of art. This powerful piece serves as a reminder of the enduring value of creativity in a world that is rapidly changing. Discover the stories behind these stunning portraits and connect with the artists who created them. #BPP2024 #ArtistSpotlight #Portraiture #BrisbaneArtScener
