Last Thursday, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) launched the Greater Sydney Heat Smart City Plan. ☀️ A joint initiative with Resilient Sydney funded through the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund supported by the Australian and New South Wales governments. The Heat Smart City Plan has been prepared by organisations across health, planning and design, infrastructure, emergency management, community and corporate sectors who recognise the need to act collaboratively, and decisively on Sydney’s heat challenge. Blacktown: This & That & Where We’re At forum The second forum of a series to provide a platform for architects working on Blacktown’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) projects was held yesterday. It was for the architects on our projects to present their work, share ideas and gain inspiration from their peers. The forum encouraged a competitive spirit, motivating participants to push the boundaries of innovation and quality in their designs for the projects. The bar was raised in a healthy competition spirit with all aiming for excellence in their projects. Kerry Robinson OAM Bill Tsakalos Andrea Hakim

We are incredibly honoured to have been recognised on the world stage as a finalist in at the recent International Road Federation (IRF) - Official Awards. The awards were announced at the IRF World Congress in Istanbul last month, where Blacktown City Council was one of only 3 finalists, in the category. This is a fantastic accolade. Blacktown was the only local government body represented at these global awards, standing alongside major international companies. To be selected as a finalist on this global stage is a true testament to the incredible, ground-breaking work of our people, and our unerring commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our residents. Our project, 'Our Streets: The Need to Consider the Safety of Our Entire Community' (also known as 'The Risks of Planting and Not Planting Large Shade Trees Along Our Streets'), earned its place in the Climate Resilience and Adaptation category. We took a stand and conducted our own study when the State Government’s approach didn’t align with our community’s needs. Congratulations to everyone involved, @matthew-o'connor, @adamcowell and the recreation and design team on this incredible milestone!
