  • The inauguration of the All Schools CAN (Climate Action and Nature) Alliance took place at the Bangalore International Centre on January 23, 2024. This significant initiative was spearheaded by the Bhoomi Network. Since its inception in 2008, Bhoomi has evolved into a platform and expanding community, focusing on holistic learning, living, and inquiry to promote harmony with nature. The event gathered educators from various schools, NGOs and other individuals interested to be part of the alliance. The keynote address, delivered by Padmashri Dr. Ullas Karanth, a renowned conservation zoologist, provided attendees with valuable insights into his lifelong connection with Nature, beginning with his childhood passion for bird-watching and extending to his extensive research on the ecology of tigers in India and Asia. Seetha Ananthasivan, Founder Trustee of Prakriya School and Bhoomi, emphasized the importance of not just caring for Nature but being Nature itself. She underscored the crucial role of Nature education in schools, highlighting the significance of experiential activities connected to nature that children naturally gravitate towards. She also spoke about the Teach for Nature fellowship programme that Bhoomi Network would offer to individuals who aspire to become Nature educators. Through immersive experiences, curriculum development, and community engagement, the fellowship aims to inspire educators to instill a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainability in the next generation. The event featured two thought-provoking panel discussions. M.A Khan (Principal, K.K. English High School), Sarvesh Srinivasan (Director, GEAR Foundation), Sharon Lyngdoh (Principal, Prakriya Green Wisdom School), Sumitra Gautama (Principal, Pathashaala), and Indira Vijaysimha (Founder, Poorna Learning Centre) shared their perspectives on creating a roadmap for the alliance-building of schools for Climate Action and Nature. The inauguration marks a significant step toward a more sustainable and harmonious future. https://lnkd.in/gXwTT4CE
