Five Belgravia Leisure aquatic venues across the ACT have earned top honours in the prestigious Royal Life Saving – Australia annual Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment. The venues—including, Canberra Olympic Pool, Dickson Pool, Gungahlin Leisure Centre, Stromlo Leisure Centre and Lakeside Leisure Centre—have all received a 5-star safety rating, reinforcing their status as some of the safest aquatic facilities in Australia. At first glance, sewing might not be an activity you’d expect at a leisure centre. Yet, every Tuesday and Thursday, Whitlam Leisure Centre transforms into a vibrant haven where up to ten women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds gather—not just to sew, but to build confidence, improve English and form meaningful connections. The Mama Africa Program also supports mental well-being, combats isolation and empowers women with life skills like water safety and swimming. Plans for January include cooking, road safety and digital literacy. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, women at Yarrambat Park Golf Course (YPGC) can now combine mat Pilates with golf through Coreswing, an innovative program designed to make golf more accessible and enjoyable for women. Coreswing launched in November 2024 with the support of the Victorian Government’s Change Our Game grant. This unique program blends Pilates, golf coaching from a female PGA professional and a post-session social coffee to create a welcoming, supportive environment for women aged 20-45. Coreswing aims to boost female participation in golf by fostering connections and confidence on and off the course. Belgravia Leisure venues across NSW and ACT proudly participated in the global Restart a Heart movement to raise awareness about CPR and AEDs. With fun activities like face painting, themed cupcakes, water inflatables and hands-on CPR sessions, the local communities came together to learn life-saving skills while supporting local causes through the Belgravia Foundation.
