Important Changes to Planning Compensation Claims (Financial Loss) Under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 The Consumer and Planning Legislation Amendment (Housing Statement Reform) Bill 2024 (the Bill) proposes significant legislative reforms as part of the State Government’s Housing Statement released in late 2023. Among these reforms are crucial amendments to planning compensation claims under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (P&E Act). The proposed reforms aim to make the compensation process more transparent and equitable, aligning with fair market principles. If your land is affected by a Public Acquisition Overlay or if you are considering triggering a compensation claim, it is essential to understand how these changes may impact you. Seeking legal advice can help clarify your position and ensure compliance with the new requirements. https://lnkd.in/enjYh326 Matthew Susic Sebastian G. • 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗣: 𝗔𝗣𝗗𝗔 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗸𝗸𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗣 Recently, APDA had the distinct honor of hosting Federal Member The Hon Michael Sukkar MP as our keynote speaker. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗣𝗗𝗔 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 Scott Morrison'𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. His presentation offered valuable perspectives on both the successes and challenges of the program, sparking considerable interest and meaningful conversations among our attendees. Although APDA remains non-political, we are committed to fostering a space where diverse viewpoints can be heard. We welcome all proposals that aim to drive positive change within our industry. Through our ongoing advocacy efforts, we’ve identified a prominent concern from our members: the significant impact of bureaucratic red tape, which continues to cause uncertainty and delay in the development process. This issue remains a top priority in our discussions with stakeholders, as we work toward solutions that enable a smoother path forward for the industry. Following Michael’s keynote, attendees engaged in a dynamic Q&A session that deepened understanding of the discussed policies and their implications. Post-event feedback revealed strong appreciation for this opportunity to engage directly with a key policymaker—a testament to the importance of open dialogue in shaping our industry’s future. We’re also proud to share that APDA has recently been featured several times in The Australian Financial Review. This recognition underscores APDA’s growing role as a trusted voice in the industry, advocating for a better regulatory environment and championing the issues that matter most to our members. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to making this event a success! We’re excited to keep pushing forward with initiatives that support progress in the Australian property and development landscape.
