We look forward to engaging with the Government’s R&D review panel Robyn Denholm, Emeritus Professor Ian Chubb AC, Professor Fiona Wood AO, Dr Kate Cornick on recommendations to expand the pool of capital to commercialise research in Australia. Australia’s fast-growing venture capital sector, with $20 billion in funds under management, is a key pillar of our national innovation ecosystem. The panel will consider opportunities to: • Maximise the value of existing investment in R&D • Strengthen linkages between research and industry • Support the achievement of national priorities • Drive greater R&D investment • Uplift Australia’s overall R&D intensity Read more here https://lnkd.in/gsrgniQn Ed Husic MP #AustralianPrivateCapital #innovation #growth

The Government passed merger reform legislation impacting investors in small and medium businesses alongside over 30 pieces of new legislation last night. We advocated strongly to ensure the concerns of our members were heard throughout the consultation process and in our engagement with government. It’s good to see some of the industry feedback reflected in the new regime. The task now is to ensure the administration of the new regime is efficient and transparent. We look forward to working with Commonwealth Treasury and the ACCC to test the effectiveness of the relatively low threshold and its impact on investment. Congratulations to all the high growth companies that made The Australian Financial Review Fast 100 List and Fast Starters List 2024, many of which are backed by members of our VC and PE community. These hard working risk takers are growing rapidly despite the challenging economic backdrop with the help of private capital. Private equity and venture capital are a $62 billion part of Australia’s success story. Private capital contributes 3% of GDP, which is more than agriculture, and a third of the total GDP contribution of the financial sector. About $20 billion of this is venture capital.
