16 Days of Activism is a global campaign to end violence against women and girls, running from 25 November to 10 December. It's vital to recognise that children and young people are also victims of violence in their own right. Living with violence can profoundly affect a child's emotional, psychological, and even physical development. It can disrupt their sense of safety, alter their brain development, and impact their ability to build healthy relationships later in life. We're committed to breaking this cycle for children and young people by helping them heal from the trauma of violence and educating the communities around them to understand their needs. All adults must advocate for change to ensure no child faces this harm alone. We are supporting the call for a Federal Minister for Children to ensure children and young people's rights are a national priority. Together, we can stand with children and demand accountability from decision-makers. #16DaysofActivism UN Women Respect Victoria National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse

Today’s the day! We’re thrilled to launch the On Us: Australian Business Coalition for Safeguarding Children Child Safeguarding Business Principles in partnership with our remarkable founding members. This event, generously hosted at Darling Harbour by Coalition founding member The GPT Group, is all about redefining the role of businesses in protecting children and young people. Alongside our wonderful members, including Westpac, TikTok, IHG Hotels & Resorts, TBWA\Australia, The GPT Group, Rugby League Players Association (RLPA) and OBE Organic®Australian Beef we aim to showcase how these co-designed Principles provide a framework for industries to ensure that their operations, products, and services promote child safety – even if they don’t work directly with children. Let’s raise the bar for safeguarding in the corporate world. Businesses coming together so all children and young people are safe wherever they are. onus.org.au #OnUsEvent #OnUs

Last Wednesday marked World Children’s Day, an opportune time to promote children’s wellbeing and open up a conversation about their rights with their voices at the centre. In all of our work, children sit at the heart of everything we do every single day. Every day, we help children and young people to heal. On their own, children do not recover from the devastating impact of abuse, neglect, and family violence. They need a network of stable, loving relationships and specialised therapeutic support. Every day, we work to keep children and young people safe. Building the ability and confidence of individuals and organisations to protect children is key. We provide parents and carers with education and support to help them raise happy, safe, and loved children. Every day, we stand up for children and young people. This happens in a range of ways, including advocating for changes to laws and policies that help to make all children safer. We work to strengthen community attitudes that prioritise the rights of children to love and safe relationships. Every day, we create understanding for children and young people. We educate and support adults who look after and work with children impacted by trauma to be better able to understand and respond to their complex needs. Children have the right to be loved, be cared for, be safe, have an education, and be special. Children exposed to early adversity often struggle to regulate their emotions, leading to either suppressed or intensified emotional expression. Many have missed opportunities for co-regulation with adults and need help developing strategies to calm down when distressed. Explore some of our strategies to support their self regulation skills. This insight is a snippet from CETC's course, Foundational Training in Intensive Therapeutic Care. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gjtzJ78A

“Fawning is a maladaptive way of creating safety in our connections with others by mirroring other people's imagined expectations and desires whilst neglecting our own needs.” In our latest blog, Dios Ininahazwe – Psychologist, Therapeutic Specialist, and Burundian man in our NSW OurSPACE program – dives into the complexities of fawning. Fawning is usually characterised by people-pleasing and self-sacrifice, and it raises important questions. Is fawning an individual's coping mechanism? Is it a reflection of cultural values? Is it a deep-rooted trauma response? As professionals in the field of childhood trauma, we know that understanding complex responses like fawning requires curiosity, cultural insight, and clinical wisdom. As Dios shares, fawning is often misunderstood – especially in collectivist cultures where prioritising group wellbeing is seen as “virtuous”. Fawning can leave people feeling disconnected and unworthy, a response rooted in fear of rejection and negative core beliefs.
