Real Estate in focus: in the final episode of Allens Confidential for 2024, hosts Catherine Thomas and Samuel Guzman dive into the world of real estate with Partner Annabelle Aland and Senior Associate Lauren Cutuli. What sort of work do real estate lawyers do? What skills do they require? What makes it interesting? One of the biggest trends in the Australian market over recent years has been the focus on ESG and sustainability, and the adoption of sustainable finance to embed ESG throughout a business. One recent project stands as a prime example of that. It was fantastic to sit down with Di Mantell recently as part of the Allens ‘Elevating ESG’ series to talk about how Celsus put in place Australia’s first sustainability loan under the APLMA green and social loan principles in 2021 and the ESG initiatives they have been pursuing since then. Di is the CEO of Celsus @ the Royal Adelaide Hospital (owner of the PPP concession for the Royal Adelaide Hospital, one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in Australia) and a strong and passionate advocate for sustainability and ESG particularly in the infrastructure sector. One of the topics we cover in the discussion is how the use of sustainable finance has made a positive impact on Celsus and the hospital project, including by enabling a more positive engagement with stakeholders and helping to build social licence within the community, which can be critically important for infrastructure projects. Thanks very much to Di for sharing her thoughts and experience with us and we hope you enjoy the discussion. #ESG #sustainability #sustainablefinance #PPP
