We help keep kids safe, heal from trauma and lead happy lives.

About us

Act for Kids is an Australian charity with a purpose to keep kids safe, heal from trauma, lead happy lives and thrive. We provide professional therapy and support services to children and young people who have experienced abuse or neglect, and early support for families at risk. Act for Kids has helped thousands of children and families since it was established in 1988. Our multidisciplinary teams provide intensive therapy, sexual abuse counselling, safe houses in remote Indigenous communities, youth mentoring, family coaches and a preschool designed for abused and neglected children with additional developmental needs to ensure they are set up for success at school. All of these services are provided free of charge to clients. While Act for Kids receives some government funding, it heavily relies on donations and fundraising for expansion and development of its services to reach more children and families in need. Act for Kids is proud to be an Inclusive Employer 2023-2024. This achievement recognises our active commitment to inclusion and that Act for Kids is above the Australian workforce average in the Diversity Council Australia Ltd's Inclusion@Work Index. • This holiday season, help create moments of trust and safety for children like *Harper, who are recovering from trauma 🌟 At just 12 years old, Harper had already experienced years of emotional abuse and neglect. Her world was filled with fear, walking on eggshells, and days spent alone. But through the patience and care of an Act for Kids psychologist, Harper slowly began to rebuild trust, one session at a time. From shy and withdrawn to hopeful and engaged, Harper’s transformation is proof that healing takes time - and it’s made possible by moments of care 🦋 This Christmas, you can create more moments like Harper’s. Your gift will provide the support and therapy children need to heal and reclaim their futures 🎁 To donate or learn more about Harper's story, click the link below: https://lnkd.in/gtbXm5kR *Names and images changed to protect the individual’s and family’s privacy.

  • FOR-PURPOSE COLLABORATION IN ACTION. 👏 Today, at the Act for Kids Support Hub, we had the privilege of welcoming the Vision Australia Job Club. The Job Club, an initiative of Vision Australia, provides support to job seekers who are blind or have low vision. It was inspiring to meet with these driven individuals who are eager to learn more about our sector and share their valuable insights. On this International Day of People with Disabilities, we are reminded of the importance of inclusivity in every aspect of our society, including the workplace. We’re excited to be partnering with Vision Australia, united by our shared commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring equitable employment opportunities for people with disabilities. At Act for Kids, we know inclusion benefits everyone. #InternationalDayOfPeopleWithDisability #IDPwD

  • Act for Kids’ progress towards our second Reconciliation Action Plan (Innovate RAP) took an inspiring step forward this week as our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, joined by executive and Board members, had the privilege of learning from Minjerribah-Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council for a powerful day of truth-telling, reflection, and deep cultural understanding. The following day, Aunty Cheryl Viellaris shared her journey and the significant impact of keeping children connected to culture. Walkabout Warriors' Daniel Evans led a collaborative art workshop to help bring our RAP vision to life, while Wade Krueger facilitated a session to refine our vision, ensuring that First Nations children remain at the heart of our planning. We are immensely grateful to our community partners as we continue Act for Kids’ commitment to reconciliation. 🙏 #reconciliation #children #families #community #firstnations
