CRITICAL UPDATE: Australia's visa processing backlog, new Skills in Demand  and National Innovation visas An unprecedented 70% surge in visa lodgements compared to the same period last year has lead to a blowout in processing times that are testing the patience of visa applicants and businesses alike. In other news, there is still no confirmed date for the introduction of the much-anticipated Skills in Demand (SID) visa, but the government has indicated it expects the visa to be launched before year end. We are working hard to lodge existing 482 applications before the closure of the program, and we ask all our clients to actively assist by responding to queries and providing documentation as quickly as possible. Employer alert: Remote work could extend Working Holiday employment beyond 6 months!! In what appears to be a significant development for employers of Working Holiday visa holders, the Department of Home Affairs’ website has been updated to clarify that work-from-home arrangements count as a change in location for Working Holiday visa holders, potentially enabling employers to extend employment beyond the standard 6-month limit. Recent changes means visa holders now have up to 180 days at a time, or a maximum of 365 days in total across the entire visa grant period, to find a new sponsor if they stop working for their sponsoring employer.
