📣 Attention Pharmacists! 📣   As announced during the National Diabetes Week, Aarian Health is thrilled to offer you free access to the accredited e-learning course, KnowDiabetes: A Pharmacist-led Program for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention and Remission.   Learn about an evidence-based program that can be integrated into your pharmacy services.   🌟 Enhance community engagement and provide valuable health services🌟   The KnowDiabetes program is designed to help individuals with type 2 diabetes improve their blood glucose levels, reduce medications, and even achieve remission. Historically, type 2 diabetes was viewed as a progressive condition, but recent studies have shown that progression can be halted or slowed. With careful management and support, many can achieve an HbA1c of under 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) and maintain it without glucose-lowering medication.   Program Highlights: - 3 hours of Group Two CPD (or 6 CPD credits) accredited by the Australasian College of Pharmacy (ACP). - Led by Dr Alan Barclay, an accredited practicing dietitian and nutritionist with nearly 30 years of experience. - Comprehensive training on Very Low Energy Diets (VLED) and the stepped reintroduction of food. - Access to KnowDiabetes digital tool for step-wise guidance on how to implement the program - A multidisciplinary care approach involving pharmacists, dietitians, and credentialled diabetes educators. - Learn why remission is not an option for everyone and how to support people with diabetes in this discussion   🔹 Why Pharmacists? 🔹 People with diabetes visit a pharmacist more than any other healthcare professional. Very Low Energy Diets (VLEDs) can only be sold through pharmacists in Australia and used under the supervision of qualified health professionals such as pharmacists. Pharmacists are crucial in screening and providing ongoing support for individuals in the program. Your role is vital in helping people navigate their journey to remission.   🔹 Remission is Possible 🔹 With the KnowDiabetes program, nearly 1 in 2 adults can achieve remission. This program is based on high-quality randomised controlled trials, proving that with the right support, type 2 diabetes prevention and remission are achievable.   🔹 Digital Tools and Support 🔹 This is the highlight of the KnowDiabetes Program. Upon completing the e-learning course, pharmacists gain access to our proprietary KnowDiabetes digital framework. This tool offers real-time guidance, enabling pharmacists to deliver coordinated and effective care to individuals with diabetes.   🔹 Sign Up Today 🔹 Don’t miss this opportunity to be at the forefront of diabetes care pharmacy services. • We are looking forward to launch of our new service within #PharmacyDiabetes called Diabetes Conversations. This change will enable community pharmacists to use advanced #technology in order to support people with diabetes better. Pharmacists utilising the Diabetes Conversations initiative can key in patient details and obtain tailored advice on medication usage, tips for managing diabetes and personal recommendations. The system also provides reminders to refer patients to credentialled diabetes educators. We continue to believe that human interaction cannot be replaced by technology. These insights will help #pharmacists make support people with diabetes. Aarian Health is excited about this new services and we will be sharing more information soon. Together with human touch and with the help of advanced technology we are changing #healthcare for the better and helping people manage their diabetes more effectively. • This innovative instrument that allows identifying the low levels of blood sugar for drivers by studying their behavior and head/gaze motion has been created. This unique invention has been developed by LMU scientists in collaboration with the University Hospital of Bern, ETH Zurich, and the University of St. Gallen, using the idea of a machine-learning algorithm that can identify the observation of hypoglycaemia in real time. Low blood sugar or hypoglycaemia is a serious side effect of #diabetes management and is especially perilous while handling activities that need a sharp brain, such as #driving. There are significant limitations associated with conventional detection methods: they are time-consuming, invasive, costly, and not always available. The new tool gathers information from people with diabetes while driving, monitoring car speed and eye movements. Experimental research was carried out on thirty people with diabetes’; data was recorded both in normal conditions as well as in a hypoglycaemic state. Despite the fact that their target model’s architecture was slightly different from that of the models of other participants, they were also able to create an ML model that could accurately predict hypoglycaemic episodes based on regular driving and head or gaze motion data. Thus, this technology could be of use in the early identification of possible threats, cautioning drivers, and improving safety on the roads. • There was a publication in May this year in Nature Communications where a new AI machine learning application was developed to screen for signs of diabetes from Chest x-rays. This invention, as the leader of a group of institutions, will dramatically change the methods of screening for diabetes by identifying the at-risk population much earlier than is possible now. Some authors attempted to utilise deep learning to examine 273324 radiology X-ray images of 163678 patients, and among the characteristics flagged, there was the visceral fat distribution characteristic attributable to T2DM individually. Most of the risk factors for diabetes assessment used in the conventional approach encompass individuals with BMIs of 35 years and above or abnormalities in cardiovascular diseases and a history of diabetes in first-degree relatives. Still, they reject many people, which is less sensitive for various races and ethnic groups. The fact that this model’s screening applies routine chest X-rays makes the AI model a more inclusive and efficient screening tool. Despite many dangerous complications and fatal conditions that may develop if a person has diabetes, the organs can be saved if the disease is diagnosed in time. “AI could be used in this way”, comments Dr Judy Wawira Gichoya from Emory University. During the validation study, the proposed AI model was used in the EHR, which was considered more effective than the traditional risk prediction model. Further, it had the potential to predict the likelihood of developing diabetes up to 3 years before the actual occurrence of the disease. This early warning system enables healthcare providers to start the prevention procedure or treatment measures early. For this purpose, the research team intends to implement this AI model within the EHR to alert physicians of the most vulnerable clients and is exploring the possibilities of adaptation to other diseases.
