For the past three years, we’ve been part of the CORAL-ITN project—an initiative bringing together researchers and practitioners to explore the unique dynamics of collaborative workspaces in rural and peripheral areas across the EU. At Impact Hub, we had the privilege of hosting Mikel Oleaga, one of 15 talented researchers participating in the programme. Last month, we gathered in Athens for CORAL’s final conference, where researchers shared their findings and our very own Christine Moser delivered a keynote on what practitioners can learn from projects like CORAL. 📌 Key takeaways: 1️⃣ Collaborative workspaces in rural and peripheral areas have different needs and setups compared to urban environments. For our predominantly urban network, this project highlighted how dynamics shift in these diverse contexts. 2️⃣ Models that thrive in cities often don’t translate to rural spaces. We explored alternative approaches, like public-private partnerships and collaborations with municipalities, which often make low- or no-rent spaces possible. 3️⃣ Whether in urban or rural settings, building genuine communities is critical. This isn’t just about “clients” but fostering real, reciprocal networks where members actively support each other. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership and excited to see how these insights shape the future of collaborative workspaces across all contexts.
