What time is it? Let me borrow your watch and I’ll tell you… To learn more about my new role, I’ve put on a consulting hat. I’ve met with a variety of people ranging from colleagues in similar roles, our HR team who works closely with our organization, sponsors for our job families, and people who are directly impacted by the work we do. I’ve learned a few things to look for: 1️⃣ The day to day These are the things that take up a big chunk of our time. 2️⃣ The frustrations The pain points that cause some friction 3️⃣ The wishes The opportunities that could make a bigger impact 4️⃣ The bright spots Those areas that are making a bigger impact When you are looking for opportunities to make an impact, what do you look for? 〽️ #learning #strategy #consulting

Today’s world of work is complex—interdependent, interconnected, unpredictable, and volatile. Top performers can navigate the increasing complexities of today’s work and are comfortable with environments that are not fully defined. They can examine multiple variables simultaneously and quickly connect the dots. But how do they do that? ▪ They have strong knowledge of their job, the organization, the industry, and the world around them, which helps them understand where they are going and how to get there.   ▪ They have strong cognitive ability, which allows them to reason with abstractions and solve complex problems. ▪ They quickly adapt to changing environments and make decisions based on available information, which helps them move fast.   ▪ They develop valuable connections inside and outside the organization, which helps them gain new insights, feedback, and support. However, no one learns how to deal with complexity without exposure to more complex situations. You have to live it; the theory, in this case, is not enough. For example, no one is born a CEO or becomes one overnight. Instead, they are given jobs of increasing complexity and progressively learn how to deal with it. And from higher to higher complexity, they eventually become the CEO. While science may suggest that our cognitive ability remains stable in adulthood, our brain is malleable. As we confront more complex situations, we can feel our “intelligence” expanding. Therefore, we should actively seek out complex tasks, viewing them as invaluable opportunities for growth and development. #complexity #intelligence #personaldevelopment #highperformance

It's been exactly 2 years since I started my journey with Valmont Industries, Inc. Time flies. I was recently reflecting on past experiences, and I feel grateful for given opportunity! Being in a Global role, it really helped me learning about different countries' compensation practices and programs all around the world and expand my knowledge in this area. It is interesting to navigate cultural nuances and see contrasting opinion of people and try to influence on it. Here are some observations and insights I came across from left to right side of the Globe: - US - grateful to be able to travel to the country and visit for both business and private reasons; really owe-inspiring experience! Was also able to provide support on certain Comp processes remotely from Dubai and add value to the team. Proved myself that everything is possible these days. - Brazil - country of vast opportunities and potential. Geographic differences may heavily influence on offered package - Mexico - I loved how structured their compensation package is! Over 10-15 different components (eg food vouchers, canteen discount, holiday pay, profit scheme etc) which makes you come the country and work as Expat (which I might be considering at certain point :D). Majority of the allowances are also mandatory by Law, meaning company must comply and follow -Argentina - when cumulative inflation rate hits 200%, you need to come up with some solution on how to approach salary revision and provide necessary support. Grateful to be able to work on Hyper-Inflation scenario and together with team put some solution in place. Hope things are going to stabilize there in near future... -Canada - was gladly chatting with the team and breaking the myths about harsh winters :D  Had to google where Mississauga is... -Europe - all is quit on the West front -South Africa - when country offers you possibility to structure your total rewards package in two different ways (total guaranteed package & traditional remuneration - base plus other components), it might be really challenging and confusing explaining the same to employees and Management as you need to deep dive into details... -Middle East - region is picking up at high pace -Philippines - good to know that employees are still being offered sacks of rice as allowance & company benefit -Malaysia - great working ethics and cooperation with team members - Australia & New Zealand - love how simple their Comp package is. Base salary and few other components and you are good to go! Simplicity is king. Buzz word #superannuation -India - main rule is not to have rule at all :D. Where even Standard Deviation cannot capture all deviations from some regular norm - China - impressed how creative people can be to find workaround solution and make the things to suit their need Looking forward to many more projects and interaction with local teams!
