From Developer to Cloud & DevOps Engineer: My Journey of Growth and Resilience ✨ For a couple of years, I was a .NET developer, proud of the projects I worked on, but I couldn't ignore the growing excitement around Cloud and DevOps. I felt an undeniable pull toward this field - its potential, its innovation, its ability to shape the future. That's when I decided to step out of my comfort zone and embrace change, knowing it would push me to grow in ways I couldn't imagine. 🚀 It hasn't been an easy journey. There were moments of self-doubt, frustration, and plenty of obstacles. But with each challenge, I found a lesson, and with each lesson, I grew stronger. 💪 The more I learned about AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, the more I realized that this was exactly where I was meant to be. 🌱 Here's what I've learned so far: 1. Start with the Basics: I laid a strong foundation with the core technologies—AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD. 2. Never Stop Learning: The tech world is constantly evolving, and I've made it my mission to evolve with it. 📚 3. Resilience is Everything: Every setback has taught me perseverance and pushed me to keep going. 🛠️ 4. Hands-On Experience Matters: I've learned the most through practical projects and solving real-world challenges. I'm still learning, still growing, and still amazed at how far I’ve come. 💼 My Experience with EY’s Hiring Process: A Disappointing Journey 💼 I want to share a personal experience I recently had during EY’s hiring process for a DevOps Engineer position. Like many candidates, I was excited about the opportunity and invested a significant amount of time and effort in preparing for the interview process. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected from a company of EY’s stature: The interviewers were unprepared and seemed unfamiliar with my background or the role’s requirements. There was a lack of clear communication about the expectations and process. I walked away feeling that my time and effort were not respected. As a candidate, it’s disheartening to experience this from an organization known for its commitment to excellence and professionalism. Time is valuable—for both parties—and such experiences can tarnish a company’s reputation in the professional community. I share this not out of frustration but as a constructive call to EY and other organizations: Respect candidates’ time and efforts. Preparation and clarity go a long way in building trust and goodwill. Ensure internal alignment. Everyone involved in the hiring process should understand the role and the candidate’s profile. Provide feedback. Even a simple acknowledgment of the candidate’s effort can leave a positive impression. To my fellow candidates, have you ever faced something similar? How did you handle it?
