While reading this article on DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion), I realized that our executive team is composed of representatives from 8+ different nations, with interdivisional brainstorms often conducted in various languages. This diversity was a deliberate strategy and a rather a natural outcome of prioritizing candidate quality with well rounded perspectives. Navigating Complexity: The Responsibility of Authority Figures to Understand and Address Mobbing In today’s fast-paced work environments, it’s easy for the complex dynamics of mobbing—collective bullying that targets individuals— to go unnoticed or misunderstood by those in leadership. Workload pressures, societal changes, and the overwhelming demands of daily responsibilities often prevent deep engagement with these issues. However, failing to recognise and address mobbing not only damages individuals inflicting lasting trauma on those targeted but also creates unhealthy workplaces and lowers performance. Teachers, managers, principals, community leaders, councils, government representatives, and regulatory bodies can all, at different stages during a mobbing attack, find themselves in the role of 'authority figure' - a role which carries a crucial responsibility for recognising, addressing, and preventing mobbing. It’s a failure of duty when an authority figure doesn't take the time or put in the mental effort required to unpack the complexity of mobbing and these behaviours are ignored or left unchecked. Authority figures play a pivotal role in supporting and protecting targets, ensuring they are heard, respected, and shielded from further harm. In a worst case scenario, authority figures can sometimes become complicit and switch roles into enabler, opportunist or perpetuator, which usually results in escalation of the mobbing attack as the high social standing of the authority figure is seen as giving permission for or endorsing the attack. Mobbing is a serious issue that erodes trust, damages mental health, and destroys careers and lives. As leaders, it’s imperative that we engage with these situations, regardless of their complexity, and take meaningful steps to safeguard those affected. Failing to do so represents not only a breach of responsibility but a dereliction of the trust placed in us to uphold healthy, safe, and productive environments. Now is the time for leaders at all levels to step up, educate themselves, and take action. I used to think that the #coaching #competency, Establishing & Maintaining Agreements, focused on the written and verbal contract with the client. However, as I grew in my coaching practice, I realized it was about establishing the coaching #agenda, confirming what the client wants to achieve, and how I and my coachee will partner to measure success. 📈 Yes, how you will approach the coaching partnership is included, too. However, this competency is more about how you and your client agree to show up or partner on the agenda and the outcome during the session. It is important to note that this competency should show up at least 10 minutes within the coaching session for a session that is approximately 30+ minutes long. #CoachingCompetency #CoachTraining #ProfessionalDevelopment #ReidReady

CERTIFIED COACH? CONGRATS! - OR NOT? Just to be clear, we are NOT against recognized international coaching credentials awarded by the likes of ICF, WABC, EMCC, … In fact, we help our participants achieve such credentials. And it’s some kind of achievement to attain such recognitions. Our question is: do such credentials, especially the more advanced ones, guarantee great coaching? We have too often seen that not to be the case. Probably same like any physician: they may have all the best of credentials and still be rather mediocre doctors. In our experience, it takes a lot more to be an excellent coach than demonstrating mastery of a competency model. 📊 Capacity Decisions Are Strategic For a number of reasons. They are among the most fundamental of all the design decisions that managers must make. 🔍 Critical for Future Demand: Capacity decisions have a real impact on the ability of the organization to meet future demands for products and services. Capacity essentially limits the rate of output possible. Having capacity to satisfy demand can often allow a company to take advantage of tremendous benefits. Example: When Microsoft introduced its new Xbox in late 2005, insufficient supplies resulted in lost sales and unhappy customers. Similarly, shortages of flu vaccines in some years due to production problems affected capacity, limiting the availability of the vaccine. 💰 Impact on Operating Costs: Capacity decisions affect operating costs. Ideally, capacity and demand requirements will be matched to minimize operating costs. In practice, actual demand often differs from expected demand or varies cyclically, requiring a balance of over- and undercapacity costs. 🏗️ Initial Cost Determinant: Capacity is usually a major determinant of initial cost. Typically, the greater the capacity of a productive unit, the greater its cost, though larger units tend to cost proportionately less than smaller units. 📅 Long-Term Commitment: Capacity decisions often involve long-term commitment of resources. Once implemented, these decisions may be difficult or impossible to modify without incurring major costs. 🏆 Affect on Competitiveness: Capacity decisions can affect competitiveness. Excess capacity or the ability to quickly add capacity can serve as a barrier to entry for other firms. Capacity can also affect delivery speed, providing a competitive advantage. 🛠️ Ease of Management: Having appropriate capacity makes management easier compared to when capacity is mismatched. 🌐 Globalization: Globalization has increased the importance and complexity of capacity decisions. Far-flung supply chains and distant markets add to the uncertainty about capacity needs. 🗓️ Substantial Planning Required: Capacity decisions often involve substantial financial and other resources, necessitating long-term planning.
