*Job Summary & Purpose*
* Teaches group of young children in preschool or day care center.
* Designs activities to promote social, physical and intellectual growth.
* Provide warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where the emotional, social, physical and cognitive aspects of development are enhanced and individuality respected.
*General Accountabilities*
* Plans lessons and learning opportunities appropriate to the developmental level and individual needs of each child.
* Teaches children according to approved instructional programs at rate and level expected with progress of each child.
* Evaluates children, maintaining anecdotal and developmental records for each assigned child.
* Treat each child with dignity and respect.
Provide an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child and show as much individual attention as possible to each child.
* Observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior.
* Supervise (sight and hearing) and interact with the children in all areas and at all times (outdoors, meals, field trips, early morning, etc.
).
* Be responsible for all mealtime activities of the group.
Serve children family style, when appropriate, and sit and eat with them during the meal.
Complete necessary CACFP paperwork during mealtimes.
* Use appropriate and positive discipline and train assistants so the discipline is consistent.
* Meets with parents to discuss child’s progress and to provide counsel or advice as appropriate.
* Maintains a suitable learning environment, which includes a warm and safe environment that is kept neat and orderly at all times.
* Encourages critical thinking through use of stimulating questions and ideas.
* Uses a variety of methods and materials.
* Participates in staff development activities, parent education and parent involvement activities.
* Contribute to and follow through on own Professional Development Plan.
* Be familiar with and adhere to Small Steps – Big Strides’ policies and procedures and the ODJFS Childcare licensing rules.
* Assist in the evacuation of the building in an emergency and be able to respond immediately to any emergency situation.
* Help others maintain a high degree of professionalism toward the program, the children, the parents and the staff.
* Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
