David Gracias

David Gracias

David Gracias is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore with a primary appointment in Engineering and secondary appointments in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and did post-doctoral research at Harvard University before starting his independent laboratory at JHU.

Prof. Gracias has made pioneering contributions to micro/nanotechnology, self-folding materials, and physical intelligence described in over 200 technical publications, including 14 original research papers in leading academic journals such as SciencePNASNature-X and Science-X.

Prof. Gracias has been recognized by several prestigious awards including the NSF Career, NIH Director’s New Innovator, Beckman Young Investigator, Camille Dreyfus Teacher Scholar, and the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award from the Humboldt Foundation. He is an elected Fellow of leading cross-disciplinary scientific and engineering societies, including the APS (physics), RSC (chemistry), AAAS (science), AIMBE (biomedical engineering), and IEEE (electrical engineering).

David is also a prolific inventor for which he has been recognized by election as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), which is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.
