UN AI Actions

AI for Good is organized in partnership with 40 UN sister agencies who actively participate and shape our programming by sharing valuable expertise and collaborating on joint sessions.

The 2023 edition of the United Nations Activities on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Report represents a collaborative endeavor between the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 46 UN agencies and bodies. This comprehensive report showcases 408 AI cases and projects run by the UN system, encompassing all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiatives range from forecasting food crises and monitoring water productivity to mapping schools through satellite imagery and optimizing the performance of communication networks, among other applications.

The Report is a joint effort between ITU and 40+ UN agencies and bodies, all partners of AI for Good and members of the UN Interagency Working Group on AI (IAWG-AI). This Report is not intended to produce an exhaustive inventory of the UN system’s work on AI. Rather, it is a tool to further collaboration and build common understanding around emerging AI technologies and solutions for the SDGs.
