UAFA (Tiffany), thank you for this insightful article. 👍 I especially appreciated the discussion of the continuing shift to “call-when-needed” (CWN) federal aerial firefighting contracts in the U.S.  How many businesses would sign up to commit millions of dollars in aircraft and personnel resources to a contract with no guarantee of when, if, or for how much work they will ever be called on to perform?.......the unfortunate answer, as we are seeing in aerial firefighting is…..fewer and fewer. 😖 This construct also dissuades many aerial firefighting companies from considering the investment necessary to adopt new technologies, like #drones that could greatly enhance safety and performance. #aerialfirefighting #dronesforgood #uafa

Aviation News Summary: Amazon Prime Air received FAA approval for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations, enabling expansion in College Station, Texas. The new permissions allow remote pilots to oversee drones with onboard detect-and-avoid systems. Amazon aims to deliver 500 million packages annually by drone, competing with Wing and Zipline. Expansion plans include Arizona, the UK, and Italy. Emirates President Sir Tim Clark described the April floods in Dubai as "like being under attack," admitting the airline needs to be more dynamic in future extreme weather. At the IATA meeting, he highlighted Emirates' struggles, including 400 canceled flights. Clark also emphasized the importance of seatbelt use after a fatal turbulence event on Singapore Airlines flight SQ321. United Airlines removed a plane for deep cleaning after up to 30 passengers fell ill on a flight from Vancouver to Houston. The sick passengers were part of a group returning from a cruise in British Columbia. The CDC is investigating norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships, including the Celebrity Summit. No hospitalizations occurred, but two subsequent flights were canceled. Air India Express flight attendant Surabhi Khatun, 26, was arrested in Kerala for attempting to smuggle nearly a kilogram of gold hidden in her rectum on a flight from Muscat, Oman. Looking for a compact powerful 2D forward-looking multibeam sonar? The Gemini 1200ik multibeam imaging sonar is a powerful addition to the popular Gemini range. The multibeam imaging sonar offers two operational frequencies with the ability to switch between low and high frequency dependant on the user’s requirement. The 720kHz low frequency setting is designed for target identification and obstacle avoidance at long range, whilst the 1200kHz high frequency setting offers extremely detailed multibeam images, ideal for inspection at close range. Switching frequencies can be set to automatically switch over at a specific range or done manually. Unique to the Gemini 1200ik is the ability to maintain a 120° field of view across both frequencies: something not previously seen in any of the Gemini Multibeam imaging sonars and ensuring the target remains in view when operating at high frequency and at short range.
