    Dissertation completed on the insights into the mechanism of drug action of a novel silver chemotherapeutic against a malignant melanoma cell line.

    Principle techniques mastered were:
    1)biochemical fluorescent and luminescent assay methods for viability and protein analyses;
    2)western blot for protein studies;
    3)annexin V/PI flow cytometric methods and analyses 4)real-time PCR (qPCR) and qPCR array techniques and data analyses for gene studies.

Principals regarding MRI and MRM techniques in terms of resolution, contrast, information content and possible applications. A 3T MRI system was used to perform imaging experiments and related image processing. Course Lecturers: Dr Henk Van As and Alena Prusova.

    Education

    I organised and ran (with the help of volunteers and my project supervisor) the Department of Biochemistry's first CANSA Shavathon at UJ in early 2012.

    This event promoted awareness and education around cancer and also raised funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). Funds were raised through the shavathon where people donated money to have their hair shaved off or spray painted with a hair dye.
