The 'GCC Board Gender Index Report 2024' was recently launched to assess female representation on the boards of publicly listed companies in the GCC region. Led by Provost and Vice Principal of Heriot-Watt University, Dubai Campus, Professor Dame Heather McGregor, the report is a collaboration with Aurora50 and it represents a comprehensive data set published for the first time. According to the report, women now hold 11% of board seats in listed companies across the UAE and 5% across the GCC. It also states, there are a total of 2,041 board positions across 265 firms in the financial sector of the GCC region. Women hold only 121 of these positions, which is a mere 5.9%. However, the 120 female directors are making a significant contribution to the decision-making processes of these firms. This shows that there has been a steady and considerable rise in gender diversity in the financial sector of the region. In my capacity as the Chief Communications Officer at Al Habtoor Group (AHG), I have traversed many professional terrains, all with their own set of challenges and opportunities. Today, I am here to share a message with you that does not revolve around corporate strategies but goes down the line of personal development - the core of confidence. Confidence is not so much a quality of character as it is something we practice everyday, manifesting itself in the decisions we make and risks we choose to embrace head-on. It is about understanding your value, finding gratitude in everything you go through, and never letting the defeats determine their own victories. Especially when, as women, it can sometimes feel like the world is determined to label us by what we are (or are not). Whether it’s in the boardroom, or dealing with something so personal — like my divorce — having been through that myself, for me to be able to share guidance was just to stay true to myself and to my values. This is not just about resilience. Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from challenges. It’s more than that— it is about thriving in your way, and reinventing every narrative that society has created for us. Every day we have a choice, to let self-doubt creep in or to strengthen our belief with the knowledge of our own capabilities. So I urge us to choose empowerment over doubt, action over hesitation, and lead by example. For all the women out there, do not forget confidence is your greatest asset. Let it shine as bright as you. And here is where I will leave the conversation open. I invite you to share your stories of personal and professional empowerment. Together, we can build a narrative of strength and inspiration.

Heriot-Watt University and Aurora50 recently published a detailed analysis of the current state of women's representation on the boards of publicly listed companies in the GCC. Called the GCC Board Gender Index Report 2024, this represents the first time that a comprehensive data set has been published collating information from across the GCC. Key findings from this report are as follows: - In January 2024, of the 168 companies listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and Dubai Financial Market (DFM), 133 out of 1,231 (10.8%) of board seats are held by women. - Across the GCC (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia), as of January 2024, women hold 5.2% of the 5,591 board seats in 752 publicly listed companies. While we still have some way to go, this represents a substantial increase from before. As we mark the 94th Saudi National Day, we reflect on this unique and historical era that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is experiencing. The bond between the people and our leadership has deepened over time, rooted in a shared history of unity under one flag. This bond, which has stood the test of time, is now guiding us towards a shared vision Vision 2030. We are living through a pivotal moment in our nation's history, a time that may be seen from the outside, but truly felt in the hearts of all Saudis. This is a period of great progress, as we work together to overcome challenges and achieve the ambitious goals of our vision. Each day feels like a step forward in building the future, and every morning we wake up with a sense of pride and gratitude for being part of such a transformative journey. We are in a time of construction, and we feel its significance growing stronger every day. This journey fills us with a profound sense of purpose, and as we look ahead to the golden era when Vision 2030 objectives are realized, we envision a future where our children will continue to carry this torch. They will build on the foundations we set today, driving forward a legacy of pride, honor, and achievement that extends far beyond what we can currently imagine. I am excited for that moment and strive every day to embrace the momentum of this transformation. While progress is swift, it challenges us to rise to the occasion and match its pace. Studies on IM that are based on #socialroletheory have mostly focused on #genderroles. However, there is a growing recognition of the need to expand #socialrole research beyond traditional gender roles. This study aims to investigate the influence of various societal roles, including gender, age, occupation, and education, on IM strategies among Jordanian #publicsector #employees within organizational contexts. Drawing upon social role theory and existing literature, this research seeks to explore how different social roles intersect and shape IM behaviors. Beirut is a city known for its vibrant culture, rich history, and cosmopolitan energy. From financial collapse and economic instability to the catastrophic explosion in 2020 and ongoing political turmoil, Beirut and its people have endured a crucible of crises. But instead of succumbing to despair, the city and its inhabitants have shown an extraordinary ability to cope, survive, and even thrive in the face of overwhelming odds. The everyday acts of kindness seen across the city tell a powerful story. In Beirut, it is not uncommon to see someone offering food to a stranger, helping a neighbor repair their home, or simply providing a listening ear to someone who is struggling. These gestures, though small, are significant—they show how Beirutis have found strength in each other, refusing to let the weight of their circumstances crush their spirit. They teach us the power of community and collaboration. In times of crisis, it is the bonds between people that provide the most reliable safety net. Those who can adjust their approach and find new ways to meet challenges are the ones who survive and thrive. This mindset is crucial not only in crisis situations but in everyday life, where flexibility and creativity can turn obstacles into opportunities. The stories from Beirut highlight the importance of empathy and compassion. The people of this city have shown that in the face of adversity, taking care of each other is not just a moral obligation but a survival strategy. Beirut teaches us the power of hope. Despite the many challenges they face, Beirutis continue to look toward the future with determination and optimism. I joined Al Mashhad المشهد to discuss the #foreignpolicy implications of the #Elections2024 outcome. SOme of the points I raised: - #KamalaHarris and #DonaldTrump would have drastically different policies towards the world. #Harris most likely would have continued #Biden's trajectory, and would also be heavily influenced by the #Obama positions particularly on the #MiddleEast. Her focus would have been on #Humanrights and #democracy, and continued path to negotiations with #Iran. She would have a very restrained US involvement on Iranian #Proxies, and would likewise continue status quo on #Russia/#Ukraine, slow-rolling aid to #Ukraine and working with #China on #greenenergy issues while seeking to limit #PRC access to sensitive #technology. - #Trump, by contrast, would try to pressure #Ukraine to make territorial concessions to #Russia, but that strategy would likely not work, as #Russia already communicated through its former president Medvedev that it is interested in full takeover of #Ukraine. #Trump also communicated to #Israel that he wants #Gaza and #Lebanon operations wrapped up before his inauguration, but his comments have no political power. He would not be able to put an end to the wars in the #MiddleEast due to #Hamas rejection of hostage release and #Hizbullah continuing attacks on #Israel. * #Trump might be open to creating a Palestinian state but not before getting #terrorism under control, and would be perceived as weak if he abandoned #Israel as an ally, which would only enable #Iran and its #Proxies to rebuild and come back with more attacks again. #Trump would most likely be much more decisive in restoring freedom of navigation in the #RedSea, returning #Houthis to the #FTO #sanctions #blacklist, imposing more significant #deterrence, such as attacking high value Houthi targets in #Yemen, being open to liquidating their leadership much the same he was willing to put an end to Qassem Soleimani. Regarding #Iran, #Trump could be open to a new and "better than #Obama" deal with Tehran, but most likely would start by returning to the policy of maximum financial pressure to get the ISlamic Republic to negotiating table and have more leverage. * And on #China, #Trump would most likely start with significant #tariffs on

I am excited to have completed the IMD’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy and Implementation Program. The program provided an immersive experience, packed with valuable insights, expert guidance, and dynamic discussions that deeply enriched my understanding of AI and its strategic applications in business. One of the most rewarding aspects was collaborating with 40 fellow executives from diverse industries and backgrounds. Together, we explored AI’s potential, shared experiences, and discussed real-world applications. The program not only deepened my understanding of AI’s strategic role in business but also inspired me to think critically about its ethical implications and long-term value.
